Hey there,
I was recently up at Coronations as i usually do on long weekends/holidays.
I've noticed lately that the windsurfers are getting pretty territorial over the whole damn area! I launched and headed out on a normal tac to get past the break and soon after was copping shouts from the windsurfers for being in "their" area.
I was north of the kiting launch pole but they seem to think they own the area and its basically my way or the highway. Even to the point where you can't hold a straight line at the normal angle to even land your kite without being amongst a few of them.
I've never seen a Kiter yelling at a windsurfer who has ventured north to get out of our 'area'..
Why can't we all just be friends!

Basically when you've got a spot like Scarbs where there are a lot of poleys & kiters, you need separate zones, there are too many noob kiters who don't understand simple concepts like right of way. They are very much in the minority, but while they exist, animosity will exist between poleys & kiters. You do get some agro poleys that just hate all kiters regardless, not much you can do about these douches.... ignore them, stay out of their way?
I windsurf all over the place, Lano, Greenhead, Wedge, Margs, Albany, Gnaraloo and in Perth, Little Island mostly. I rarely have any issues with kiters, mainly because I sail predominantly where the standard of kiting is generally good e.g Margs - most of the kiters are either surfers or ex-windsurfers who have a bit of a clue about what's going on, I sailed Lano mainbreak last week and there were no issues with kiters & poleys, just a few problems with a couple of moronic Euro windsurfers. Perth is another story - I haven't sailed Scarbs this season, but last year was a complete clusterf??ck, kiters doing downwinders, kiting through the flags, jumping over swimmers, nicking waves, multiple collisions with windsurfers etc etc So at certain spots, separate, zones are a necessity. I have to say though, there seems to be much fewer problems than there were a few years ago. In saying that, I'm windsurfing dutchies on Sunday for the first time this season, so be interesting to see how that is.. unlike Scarborough it's not a place that can handle a lot of traffic.. at least not on the south side of the groyne.
And I suppose something to consider - there are clueless, moronic windsurfers and there are clueless, moronic kiters, the difference being, the clueless moronic kiter poses a much greater danger to himself and to Joe Public than the clueless, moronic windsurfer does.
Really I was at Corros over New years and it was me shouting at the Poleys to get out of my way......................go figure.![]()
A lot more windsurfers at Coros this year as well, seems to becoming more well known as the sick spot that it is!
Yeah good points, I noticed this year it was crazy busy with windsurfers at Coros with only a handful of kites so i guess they feel they dominate the area and we should'nt be there...
Oh well, I'll keep following the rules like I always do and give way to the poleys as a sign of courtesy. Hopefully things calm down a bit out there.
