Hey guys. I'm fairly new and noticed the wind is more then zero tomorrow arvo. Just wondering if anyone will be out in Wollongong region. If so where are you gonna be? I'd love to make some new mates in the sport

Hi,

I am from Sydney but I come down to Wollongong sometimes on weekends. I have not kited in the gong yet, but east Corrimal looks good on northerly wind. Maybe Saturday may turn ok as the wind may end up strong than predicted if the temperature rises.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Hey Trapped,

Wondering what weather info you access...hmmmm..

GFS estimates are around 17/22 kts all day for wind with the PM appearing to be stronger. Swell will be around 2/4 foot so if you are new, surf may not be an option. Wollongong has some nice places to kite BUT all beaches are small with lot's of reefs, flags, people etc, etc.

If your a flat water rider it might be prudent to stay with what you know.... sorry to be blatantly obvious.

Jeremy, if you have never kited in the "gong", please don't send this guy to a location in the wrong winds. Do the guy a favour...thanks.

There are 2/3 main locations north and south of Wollongong. Go and meet the crew. Everyone is helpful. It ain't hard..

Kitcho/Simon, hope the wind if kind to you tomorrow. It should pump by 5pm...enjoy..

Wow that's the nicest thing you have said to me all year tony. Lol
I think the monkey is off my back.

Might head to primbee tomorrow if it stays dead south and don't get any east in it by 4pm. I have some new apex bindings to try out and I'm looking forward to pulling off some massive new unhooked moves. Shame I'm just going to eat water. But I'll give it a good go.

Will be good for Trapped too once we have him launched.

Hi Tony,

I saw kiters on northerly wind in Corrimal last week. In another thread, a Wollongong kiter confirmed they were there. I don't want to give people wrong info or location. Maybe you can tell us what they are, if I am mistaken?

Regards,

jeremy

Hi guys. Thanks heaps for the info. I'm more then happy to hit the surf. Any new challenge is fun haha. I should be getting down to Wollongong around 4:30 Irish (providing in off work on time) so I'll check back on here.
I'll definitely come down to where ever there are some other guys, just a bit of assurance that if things go seriously wrong I can get help haha. I'll see you this arvo! :D

Hey Jeremy,

It's all good.

Caught up with Trapped (Nick) and Kitcho (Simon) this arvo locally.

Respect to Simon for assisting Nick, who will rip when he sorts out some newer gear..

As I said, the entire area is not so good in northerly winds. There are some spots on Lake Illawarra but access is an issue. Having a boat helps.

NE winds are different, but again most locations are not so good for learning. MM's down at Port is about as good for a "learning spot" than most of the know area's. Remember, just seeing other kiters in the water doesn't make to a great spot to learn.

If you are surf savvy, it will help otherwise the tried and tested method is flat, shallow water.

in the last couple of years with my interest in teaching, most of the local guys I know have invested time in driving to either Kurnell or Shoalhaven to learn in suitable conditions.

See you in the water..

Hey, was a good little kite. wind was OK for the big kite and was first time on the Naish Apex. Soooo much more control. love them.
Yep, Nick will be shredding in no time. he was off to a really good start. Have to get his 11m sorted.

Tony, forgot to ask how was the new boogie board today?

Hey, Im just learning as well. @Nick, i met you last week when you were landing at primbee point. I had the 9m 2013 argo.

I am looking at going straight onto a directional board and have so far been practicing kite control, self rescue and i spent an afternoon in the wake park just to get a feel for being pulled through the water, which was an awesome experience.

Seabreeze is forecasting some wind for next week (N-NE 25knt) where would be a good spot and is anyone interested in going out together?

Cheers,
Duncan

@Nick, sorry must have been another Nick but im keen to go out whenever anyone else is. I live at north gong' so its no bother to be at the beach in 5-10 mins.

Is anyone going out this afternoon evening? Looks like there might be a bit of wind picking up. Where do people recommend?

Cheers

Once again kitcho is my saviour. So thankful. I think it's time to do some youtubing on self rescue

Yeah just my di(k just didn't go hard. Need to figure out how to fix it. Probably screw it ;)

Just as a question to the more experienced guys on this thread. What are the usual Wollongong spots and what are the winds that they work the best in?

Also next Tuesday anyone?

I ripped it a while ago but wasnt too worried.
But then the other day after unwinding the largest tangle in the world and blowing up the kite noticed a new one where the bladder is poking through a tiny bit. taking it up to kitepower tomorrow so hopefully will get it back by the weekend.

I knew there was a reason I'm GoodSimon and your BadSimon.
That night kite sounds good for this week, but will have to see if I can get some free time.
maybe even lunch time tomorrow while the kids are still at school.
I get off at 11:30am so will pack my gear in the car and pray for the wind gods.

Just jumping onto Trapped's callout here, I am a Tassie kiter planning a trip up to the gong in March and wondering what the general state of wind is at that time of year, and where kiters might be? Going by the comments I know that Trapped will be shredding by then (and not just the kite either!) :)
