What's the best direction in your opinion for Marion? Assuming you only kite the surf side and not the lagoon?
I personally like northerlies and NEerlies out the front....having said that the yard was great fun on Saturday with a NE wind and big NE swell as the waves really cleaned up on the inside and there were fun lefts and rights. I think out the front is best when the swell is small and wind N-NE, down the yard end when swell is large. Also fun in a Southerly or SEerly out the front , SWerlies tend to be too offshore and gusty.my 2c worth.
word of warning at the yard... i had a blowout on my kite out the back and it is a big swim in (1km+) with large currents, be prepared to dump your kite if necessary, always kite out there with someone else. Current is especially strong out through the channel on an outgoing tide.
Nice - cheers mate. Yeah I have surfed at the yard for many years. I wouldn't kite out that far. Have swum in once before after a broken leash - not keen to do it in a harness!
Marion Bay attracts a NE wind even when the prevailing direction is northerly. However, once it does go due north or NNW then the big hills kill the wind or make it dreadfully gusty. Best bet is to keep an eye on Maria island and dunalley wind readings to see if there is enough east in it For Marion bay.
Another awesome session at Marion today - only 2 of us out! Good solid wind but small waves. One of my favourite sessions to date. Hopefully see you guys down there next time.
It's honking by the looks! I went for a surf instead today - probably should have gone for a kite instead!
Hi Folks, Dex here having just moved here from Ireland. Relatively new to kiting (1 yr in VERY cold Irish waters). Gave Marion a go yesterday. Great fun although I got there a bit late for my 9m. Still fun to fly the kits and work out the cobwebs.... looking forward to seeing you guys out there
