Heading to Woodgate for about 10 days starting Monday. Wind is looking great at this point. I understand there are no waves off the beach cos it's sheltered by Frazer but wondering if anyone has kited the mouth of Theodolite Creek or the Burrum River. It's not marked on the pinned map of Qld kite locations, any advice or info?

Hi mate. The mouth of burrum river is a great location in a e or se wind. Imo the last two hours of the run out is best some nice flat stuff on the woodgate side.

You can get some waves at woodgate, nothing huge of course. The river mouth can be fantastic at woodgate in a SE or even S through to E. Burrum river as said above is also good. If you feel like a drive, Elliot Heads via Bundy is one of the best spots in QLD imo, would take you around 45 mins I'd guess. An hour south and Hervey Bay is a great place in a SE, few kiters also. You've picked a good week, every day looks kiteable.

Does the river get shallow enough at low tide to cross?

Just had 8 days in Bargara . Had a good 6 days of SE trade like winds 18 to almost 30 knots at times. Elliot heads is an awesome place to kite, from about 1/2 tide to low , and low to half high.
Also had a bit of a look around. Theodolite creek entrance looks like it could one of the best spots I've seen, probably on a half tide running out.( was doing the family thing, kited every morning and most arvo's,had kites in the car , but family was enjoying the creek so left kites). It had a gutter inside that at the right tide could be near 1klm long, not to mention the small waves and ramps at the mouth. Burrum heads also looks really good. I'm not sure what wind it would work on, maybe S to SE, but at half tide, sheltered by sandbank, pure glass flat water.
By far far the best area I've kited, and once again met some really nice people up there.

@ BurkeyBoy. No mate. The south side of the channel is a good 6ft plus at low tide
Cheers Matt.

Half way through my stay and stoked with Woodgate. Theodolite Creek is a cracker with plenty of flat water in the creek and some nice waves north of the mouth. Kiting off the main beach in front of the caravan park is also worth crossing the road for. Have had solid 20ish knots and been kiting every day. Stoped off and had a kite at Elliott Heads on the way down, that place deserves its reputation. But for a family friendly location with great kiting I couldn't be happier with my choice. Think I'll pump up and hit the Burrum River mouth.
