I'm 100kgs and not sure what size kite to buy. Had lessons and they said a 17m kite. Talking to locals and friends and they say 14m. So i'm a little confussed. I will be using it on the coast and around mortan bay. Any sugesstions that can help me make the rite decision would be great cheers.

Hey Mate
A 17 is to big and the guy who said for you to get a 17 needs to be shot. It's way to big of a kite when these days there are plenty of guy bigger than you riding 12m and 14m kites.I have a mate who rides a 14m rebel and is out in the same conditions as me when i'm on my 12m. If you want some proper advice or some one to sell you a kite that is right for you then give me a call and I'll help you out.

Feel free to call any time 0418722928

Thanks Jacko

Depends on the kite, and the board you are using, but a 14 is the max you would go for recent model kites. Even then you will probably be looking for something smaller after a while and just keep the 14 for those light days.

I push 95kg's and a 12 is my largest kite - I am going in 14kts easy. I look for any excuse to drop down a size as soon as the wind will allow it. I change my board rather than my kite when it is lighter.

Even so kite selection is key and make sure you get good advice on what is appropriate for you, size is only one aspect. I would recommend a bridled SLE for anyone getting starting out in the sport. There are many options, and I personally would recommend an Airush Flow 12m or 14m for your weight (as I know them), but there other good brands that have similar products as well.

What size did you learn on? Surely not a 17m?
