Re: Wellington Point Bathing Area change update
Wendy Boglary (Redlands Council) visited Trevor Berrill (Windsurfing rep) last week to let him know this change was about to pass Council. She confirmed this is part of a two stage process that Council officers explained to us last year i.e. the process includes -
1. Approve a smaller than usual bathing reserve with a 200 metre outer limit (a bathing reserve is normally 400 x 400m) - the bathing area within this would then be narrower as per the flags on the beach but extend up to 200m out with buoys defining the outer limit.
2. Call public consultation for a process to approve a shorter outer limit - as we suggested 50 to 100m for the bathing reserve, which then also limits the bathing area outer limit.
This process is likely to occur in coming months - hopefully before Spring. As a kitesurfing community, we will need to respond to this with submissions to ensure we get this 200m limit reduced to 50 or even 40 meters.
See letter from Redlands Council dated 24th June 2019 below.

Theres only one type of people willing to spend time in that foul murky brown smelly muck and thats germans.
And we can scare that lot off with imperial measurements.
Give em the 656 feet i say
here's more news on he Proposed changes.
Below is a notice of the new Wellington Point Bathing Reserve changes printed in the local Redland City Bulletin newspaper on 25th June 2019.
Redland City Bulletin reads:

Oh come on!!! Who is swimming out 200m at that angle? Anyways good news is theyres still plenty of kiteing to be had on the sides bad news is thats nigh impossible to let non local kiters know (do pole dancers travel?) And theyll just do runs back and fourth infront of everyone almost like theyre flaunting disobedience. ... Is theyre a reason why you cant swim width ways? Im more of a sinker
Wait.. no lifeguards no restrictions? Ehhh its not so bad. 10m is quite arguable aswell. I mean come on its 50 everywhere else.
Who the life guards are guarding is bloody beyond me. Joint reminds me of the swamps of dagobah
