Hi All
I am relocating to the Gold Coast and need lots of advice. I have been surfing since 1987 and kiting since 2002 and like most of us believe that I was put on earth only to kite. So all the decisions I make, where to stay, where to work, what to drive and so on, depends largely on kiting. Don’t tell my Wife, she already knows.
Almost all my experience has been in the sea and waves. I like wave riding as long as it can be done on a twin tip, too dumb to jibe. Surfboards are for surfing and I do that only when there’s no chance of wind.
That’s enough about me. I have been Googling the area and found spots on the SEQKA site, Shearwater, Jennifer Ave, Oatland Esplanade, Kite Island, The Red Barge, Loaders Greek, Main Beach, Palm Beach and Kirra. Most off these seem to be flat water, nice to try new tricks. With this in mind Southport seems to be a central place to stay. I come from a sleepy little holiday town and worry about the reported hustle and bustle of Southport. Please, I would like to hear about these spots and others from the locals. This I hope will help me decide on where to stay.
Hi Airpig
Mate the best place on the Goldy is down the southern end heaps of good waves for surfing and kiting closer to the tweed coast so you can get away from the crowds. Best thing to do is give me a call when you are here and I'll give you a run down on all the best spots. But for living here the southern end is a lot more laid back than the northern end.
