Thumbs Up

It appears that the council are trying to re-grow some of the weeds that are next to the main rigging area @ Sandgate.

What concerns me is that the signs specifically have no kite-boarding on them.

However, having spoken to a couple of anonymous council workers, it appears that the council simply don't want people walking through the newly growing weeds to get to the rigging area, but to use the board walk to the side (or the beach).

Could this be a good time for SEQKA talk to the council to make sure there is no hidden agenda and to make sure we are all still friends?

Bring on the wind!

We have had a number of meetings with the local council and local councilors regarding the issue and should have solid directions in the very near future. We have also submitted a proposal for the council to endorse on regulations for kiting activities in the area, and signage to educate visiting kiters as well as the public regarding the sport. Better facility have also been recommended.

Setting up, launching and landing of kites in the immediate grass area next to the water does not have our endorsement as week in week out we see kiters getting into trouble, kites going into the trees. Lots of people have no idea about turbulence, and many kites have popped landing onto the sharp debris.

My advice to all is to walk your kite right out to the water's edge at all times, set up your lines and launch as close to the water as possible. We dont get king tide often and very seldom we do not have enough room to setup on the beach. If you are taking a break at high tide, put your kite on the beach and roll up your lines. That way, we can park kite behind kite without getting tangled. A bit of respect and courtesy will make everyone enjoy the sport a lot more.
