Hi Everyone, Just some info to let all members/non members to a open season party, being held at Kurrawa Surf Club, Broadbeach(the room straight ahead as you enter) at 7pm this Friday night 29th. There is several new kite dvd's being shown as well as lucky door prizes, nibbles and drinks through out the night.

All the shops will have all the latest kites there, so its a ideal time to compare and ask any questions you may have.

Don't forget the membership this year is still $65 for a single or $135 for a family.

Please show your support, and come along as this year we are looking for ideas on ride days or social outings.

See you all there

Should be a few hours of legend talk and chewing the fat after which there will probably be a night of gambling at the casino follwed by early morning strip club visits

Sounds like a fun night!! unfortunately we will not be able to make it due to other commitments that we have not been able to get out of. We will still try and have the New North and Naish kites there if we can find some one who would like to take them. Otherwise the kites will be in the New Roar waterman's shop to look at and demo.

good luck to all on the night and drink hard!!

Thanks everyone for the good show last night! Hopefully we are in for a season of strong winds, good waves and plenty of sun!
Thanks to Moti Levy from Wake N Surf, Tweed Heads shop for making the trip to the north end - we appreciate your effort and would love to see you at the ride days and social events.
See Moti for all your south end Kiting requirements - including any mending for those unfortunate accidents!

Welcome to the newbies to the sport and club - we hope we answered your questions and look forward to seeing you out on the water! Remember to support your local shops, local club and local council in keeping Kitesurfing an awesome sport on the Gold Coast.

Thanks to Surf Fx for the display of 2010/11 new stock - we will keep everyone posted with their demo days, lessons times etc for the summer. SEQKA appreciates Surf Fx continued support over the years and looks forward to many more!

We are now planning a social night in the next four weeks. Suggestions welcome - we would like to start the year of with a bang! We were also wanting to co-ordinate a day out at the Pin during the summer - anyone keen???

Feel free to post your ideas here or email president@seqka.com.au

See you on the water!

Kate
Secretary

P.S - For those that missed out -there will be plenty more! - If you are not on our text list send your details through to our email so we can keep you posted on ride days, shop sales and social events.

HAHA this cracks me up

i didn't know SEQKA was surf FX's media outlet? So when will the next lessons be?

I will continue to give my support to AKSA not SEQKA for this year, for the same reason as previous years. We were hopping that the start of a new year might bring a club for the whole of the gold coast and be a great start for all the shops to get involved but from reading the above email this does not look like the case.
Yes we were invited and yes we were trying to get there but unfortunately with opening a new shop we are just out of time at the moment. So for this Roar does not exist to SEQKA by the looks of it!!!

I know how SEQKA works and who it benefits so i wish moti good luck.

Until next year

Great night paulio. We are looking forward to a big season with the PKRA and some good SEQKA events. Congrats to the people who won gift vouchers to Surf FX in the draw. There is a 50% off carpark sale on at the moment if you want some extra value.

Next event a social night at the casino?

Wasn't just surf FX, Moti also has contacted us over the previous 2 months wanting the club to promote days, Sales, Demos etc. So if 'Roar' bothered to contact us, we too would be only too happy to promote your business, it's a two way street remember!

I'm sorry but i wrote that not ang not that it should matter.

psylor is right in what he says, we had a open mind this year and ready to start again but now back to just doing our own thing and looking after our number 1 which is our customers.

president@seqka.com.au this is the email kate just put up on her post and this is the one i have sent stuff to and yet for some reason it bounces back.

It's a inner circle club and I'm sure i will get red thumbs for saying what I'm saying.

Hey i'm not bagging FX they have a full club just for them and don't have to do jack for it, good on them, but for me i will be happy doing my own thing again this year.

It's a shame to see a club that i helped start go this way but ohh well such is life.

I also hate to tell you but the clubs are not there to promote shops!!! or maybe things have changed these days.

I not the first to bring this up i remember someone starting AKRAM i think it was for the same reason, so you just keep telling your self the club is for all and one day you might even belive it.

I posted on this topic before this night went ahead about not being able to make it, as this seems to be the best way to contact SEQKA. But weather i turn up or not we are still here and we still teach allot of people every year this great sport and if you were half serious about getting more people in the club then you would be trying to work with us not trying so hard to work against.

I just think non members of the 'club' should still be allowed to compete/ participate in events even if it means they pay a premium and sign an injury clause to do so.

It would be more reasonable to offer AKSA members free or reduced entry price to any competitions throughout the year and non members can pay more, but at least have the opportunity to participate. Just my opinion.

So if i am to hold a competition and allow non AKSA members to compete, will the AKSA members who compete still be insured by AKSA at the event? and will SEQKA help promote it?

Yes I would say that the members are covered under the competition, Yes SEQKA would promote the event. Are you planning on competing as a member or try to slip in as a non member? Or is this a question that has been nulling around in your mind for quite some time?.

Not trying to slip into anything really but I dont believe AKSA should dictate only members of their so called association can compete in any competition ever.
AKSA acts like a company even if it isn't legally known as one. I fail to see why I should be forced to pay for 1 choice of insurance policy, beers, food or whatever you spend the 'club' money on just so I can enter a competition.

The answer would be that AKSA holds the public liability cover, which is required by councils to hold a competition etc, guess you can provide your own 20mill cover and lay that on the desk on the next council meeting. This years premium also covers kiter to kiter public cover.

So can there be a choice between coverage for comps and events and full membership social outing club.

Thanks Paul for understanding my point, I just think any kiteboarder should be free to compete in any comp with minimum cost, be that entry & insurance fees. If they want to be involved in a social club they can pay more to be a member of that club and enjoy those benefits.
You already offer social only memberships so just offer the insurance side also.

I haven't spoken to Keith for months, but last time I did he was doing the same old thing.

Just an innocent question... and not a dig at you personally Psylor

Some people want the benefits of belonging to an association (comps, access etc) without actually paying for the association fees

In any other sport that I have been involved with (soccer $400, rugby $150, local board club $90, touch footy $90, Austag $100, Indoor Soccer $90), if you want to participate in an event where the association's PL policy is being used, and permits have been acquired, you have to be a member of that association and it only covers one competition season.

If you want to play in a rugby comp you have to join the ARU (or QRU, or NSWRU) or you cannot play, use refs, get insurance, or council approval.

No member of any sporting association that I have been a member of has questioned where the money gets spent. You either pay to belong or find another sport.

Kiting seems to be the whingiest, bitchiest sport out there. Worse than lawn bowls. All about 65 lousy bucks.

My point is that all the sports you mention are 'club' sports, kiteboarding is more like surfing, skating, snowboarding, etc - You dont have to be part of a 'club' to participate in events in these sports just sign a waiver to enter.

Fair enough the insurance is needed in our sport but is it really necessary to be part of a club in our sport and make it like sailing? I dont think so.

I see where you are going with this and i do agree. If you want the extras of the club days and the stuff they get up to then you should pay $65 if you just want the insurance then you should be able to pay just that part of the $65, at the end of the day it is about getting people to have insurance and not so much about numbers in a club so people can drink free piss!!!!

IMO anyway

Are we getting our renewal forms posted to us, otherwise how do we get one?

Sad to see politics I didn't even realise existed have come to the fore. Whatever happened to kiting being about having fun? Surely $65 is not too bad for insurance- I'm happy to pay and I never make it to any of the ride days. I think $65 is a small price to pay if I kook it up and hurt someone.

I buy new kites every year and have been kiting for 9 years- I go to the same shop each year because their customer service is excellent- not because they do, or don't, have anything to do with SEQKA.
