Tomorrow official assessment will be conducted to see if beach and water is safe enough for event to run. Today there were still some debris in the water, though comparing to last week, it has cleared loads. The water has also started getting clearer.

If all good, official sign in will be at 12nn, with first possible race from 12.30pm. BBQ is provided free of charge at the end of the races at prize giving.

Not to mention no one is covered by insurance. There will always be next time.

Why would no one be covered by insurance Jas?

I found this out this week, if the council has a beached closed for whatever reason and we choose to kite at the closed beaches as we all have been doing, we do it at our own risk not covered by insurance on a closed beach. Thats why i was asking if any of the councils had officially re opened any of the beaches on another thread. I cant see them having them like that for long as they are getting better after every tide.

As far as I am aware, there has NOT been any official closure for Sandgate Beach by the Council. If unsure, call the Brisbane City Council on 07-3403 8888 to clarify. They are open 24/7.

As service provider for over 15 council programs (Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, Standup Paddling and Kayaking), we get updates from the council at the first instance. Active Parks called me today to ask if we are going ahead with the programs this weekend. The latest update we received from the Brisbane City Council's Local Asset Services was on the 18th Jan 2011. It said:

The following parks have been affected from the recent flooding:

SOUTH BRISBANE
Fairfield Park
Robinson Park
Graceville Memorial Park
Cliveden Ave Reserve
Yeronga Park

WEST BRISBANE
Rocks Riverside Park
Booker Place Park
Sir John Chandler Park
Jindalee Olympic Pool
Gregory Park
Woolcock Park
Perrin Park

CENTRAL BRISBANE
City Botanic Gardens
Orleigh Park
Lower River Terrace Park (Not Riverlife)
Powerhouse Park

EAST BRISBANE
Bulimba Memorial Park
Hardcastle Park

NORTH BRISBANE
NIL

These parks will be CLOSED until further notice as they need major work to get them to their standards.

There have been kiters out at Sandgate everyday, but we do not recommend any learners to be out there. The water has cleared up a lot, you can see through the water now and the smell has gone. But there are still debris floating around here and there on the water. The beach, other than the high tide mark line, is mostly cleared of debris.

We have also spoken with the Sandgate Police Station that there is no ban for anyone using the beach at Sandgate. They certainly do not have orders in place to stop or prevent anyone from kiting.

I dont debate the fact the parks arent closed and yes we have been riding at all the beaches from scaborough to sandgate but that dosent change the fact that the councils, not just Brisbane but Redcliffe as well told the general public that the beaches were unsafe for water activities until further notice, the councils dont have authority over the beach below the high water mark and the police have got better things to do than chase us off the beach . Now if you go onto the A.K.S.A site, log in and read through the policy, you will find they have allot of out's for kiting under the present conditions.

Thanks for the phone number, Rang them and spoke to a guy who said the beaches where not officially closed but extreem caution should be taken. There are a number of boat ramps closed (not that we use them) and most of the parks that had not been cleaned along beaches would be done over the week end. Dont take this as totally right as i also found on Redcliffe city site that the beaches on the peninsula where closed until further notice posted last monday. you might want to talk to department of marine and environment as they look after the waterways not the council.

Jas: Beach - jurisdiction to the council, officially up to the high tide water mark, but their duty of care extends to water's edge even at low tide. They confirmed this when we applied for safety signage to be erected. Water: MSQ. At all our events, we need to seek permits from both departments. We also inform the VMR & Coastguards so they are aware of our activities, just in case of an emergency. Fact remains Sandgate Beach is and has not been closed at any time from the recent flooding.

David: If someone gets hurt at an organised event due to the negligence of the organisers, there are legal considerations we need to account for. We have 2 more races till the end of the season. Hold tight!

I guess if you have permits from MSQ they would be liable in some way too, i know when we used to have sailing events and we asked for permits, they took everything in consideration

No lessons were run at Sandgate today. Just a guy learning to rig up and fly the trainer kite on the beach. The guy also had tons of launching and landing practices <now loved by local kiters lol>

Tons of local kiters out but. Water has cleared very well, very few floating debris left.

Yeh you would have to be a crazy person to even think of teaching someone in the water at the moment.

Please read NOR Richard. All the details are contained within. I am not starting a public discussion on specific topics from the event. This is a mere notice board for the event.

My appolligies for being so bold as asking if you have insurance coverage Padi.
As a Kiter interested in the race series I just thought it would of been a requirement for you to have insurance to obtain the nessacry permits to run such an event ?
You do have permits don't you ?
If you don't have time to post the word Aksa or Iko could you cut and paste the NOR link so I can read if you have insurance ?
Thanks for the informative post
