Im in a similar situation except i will be on surfers paradise late august/early September. I only use a 9m in WA for flat and surf. is it worth even taking my gear across?
Also does QLD have any local laws on kiting i should be aware of?

And how would you be if you got there and it blew up 20 knots on afternoon and you didnt have your gear. Slim chance but still possible and you dont want to be sitting on the beach thinking if only... Just take it .

Many spots like Inskip Pt, Double Island Pt (all very very close to Rainbow) work awesome in the common westerlies we get that time of year - take your gear. It's likely you'll get a ride. (I'm not kidding) - It's cold though, wetty weather...

There are a few good spots to kite in brisbane if you have time. I will be down at Sandgate beach (beside the local swimming pool) if the wind does come in.
