Just wondering whats happening with the narrow neck signs
as there are heaps of bad feelings about the 1st line may i make a suggestion
put a peace of white tape over the lettering as maybe this could be a temporary
fix to the problem until other ideas are met As i said Just an idea.

So what are your new rules or "SEQKA'S" new rules for kiting there, as i normally kite narrowneck if it's too southerly anywhere else?
Have to agree with you (upsidedowner) on the 1st line - I have been a staunch SEQKA supporter and member for 2 years now but I don't think we are doing ourselves any favours by trying to lead others to believe that narrowneck or any beach is the exclusive property of SEQKA for kitesurfing...
This certainly will create a stronger divide between members and non-members, we need to encourage membership NOT try to coerce or force kitesurfers to join our association.
As members it is important we lead by example and encourage membership through being cooperative, friendly and helpfully at all times - SEQKA members are ambassadors for our association and could easily help in recruiting more members simply by being a person that non members can respect and would like to get to know better through exclusive club activities such as ride days, down winders and piss up nights! We require large membership numbers to have a strong voice so that we may have some influence on council, lifesavers and other beach user groups that we may need from time to time to approach for help or understanding.
Pls remove/tape over the 1st line on those signs as I think it is doing us more harm than good... ![]()
As Narrowneck is at a Gold Coast surf beach location that is very close to a flagged swimming area and is also populated by beachgoers, it was decided at a specially convened Seqka meeting to supply some signs to make kiters aware of the rules for safe kiting.
The suggestion on the sign that Seqka membership was a prerequisite was made to ensure that at the very least, kiters using that area were covered by public liability insurance.
This requirement has been made a local council regulation in several kiting locations around Australia and the club is acting proactively to ensure the abovementioned insurance is at least in place for this location.
This action was taken in direct response to many complaints made to Seqka by experienced kiters who witnessed very dangerous behaviour by inexperienced or thoughtless kiters using an area heavily populated by the public.

So has this sign been approved by council or even legal for it to be displayed on a public beach? Might be best to forget about the sign altogether and just help someone out if their in trouble or have a chat to them if they are doing anything unsafe. I think sequa will have full support from both members and non members in promoting safe kiting at narrowneck and educating the new kiters with the correct skills and some basic rules so everyone can enjoy safe kiting.
Well said Fitzy. The signs have been up for a while now and I have had no negative feedback from anyone at the beach and I have made a point of talking with everyone I could.
It’s early days yet but it seems to me there has been a real improvement in the general standard of behaviour and consideration for other beach users since we have had the signs.
I agree with public liability issues (Fitzy)- that's one of the main reason's, I became a SEQKA member as I wanted to make sure that should I accidentally injure another beach user that they could, at the very least, claim against my insurance. I think it would be helpful for the sign to explain to all kitesurfers that they should/must have public liability insurance and the best and cheapest way to procure this IS to become a SEQKA member...
I have had to deal with the introduction of public liability issues in other sports over the last 15 years and also through my professional affiliations, liability issues have often been used as the big stick to push members into joining clubs or larger affiliated bodies... A case in point has been the Windwanders Club (Justin) which had to responsibly shut down for a period of time until liability issues could be resolved.
I love kitesurfing and I respect the SEQKA committee managing our sport so can we all get behind them and become (responsible) MEMBERS this would solve many of our current issues.... Safe and Happy kitesurfing to all in the Winter squalls!
