G'day guys im coming up from sydney for UNI games. Sadly im not competing, just there to support mates and enjoy my break from work.
im staying in Surfers near the main beach, not wanting to kite main beach for obvious reasons, where is the closest spot for me to safely kite?. Anyone from that area that is happy to show me around the kite beach would also be greatly appreciated.
Will be there from the 27th september through to the 3rd of october.

There are a number of spots to kite on the goldie, both flat as well as surf.

Flat water: 1/. Shearwater Espplande on Runaway Bay (10min drive from Surfers), 2/. Loders Creek also knows as KFC cos it's behind KFC on the Broadwater opposite Seaworld.

Surf: Narrowneck is where SEQKA crowd normally hangs, but anywhere along the ocean provided you stay well clear of flags, swimmers, surfers, river mouths you should be ok. I'd ask the surf life savers first, so to make sure there's no ban/objection in that particular area, and in some ways, you are telling them - ay im going kiting, keep an eye on me! When kiting in the surf, be very careful of the rips, the dumpers could be lethal. Never go into a flag area (i.e. do not start upwind of flags)

At the popular spots, you should meet many local kiters. If you are staying at Surfers, you can always take a bus upwind and do a downwinder back home on marginal days.

Do not put anyone at risk, like make sure no one comes in your killzone at all times, and you'll have a fab time wherever you kite! Enjoy your holiday mate!

If you need more info, visit SEQKA in the forum or PM us.

Found a new guide with more than 55 great kiteboarding spots in South East Queensland. You have to buy it but cheap for what it has in it. Looks like they are doing other areas in Australia as well. the address is www.kiteboardinglocations.com
