We have lived on the coast for 30 years and have surfed and now kite surfed all up and down the coast. We now reside near Narrow Neck which makes it ideal for us to enjoy the best that the location has to offer in the way of surfing every day and attempting to kite surf. When i say attempt i mean that there are a bunch of guys down there that think that they own the beach. They have approached us several times telling us that we have to read the rules of the beach and insist on blabbing that to us every time we go there. We know the rules of water sports as we have been involved in it our whole lives. They have erected a sign that states among other things that you have to have seqka registration to kite surf there and list once again a whole lot of babble on this sign that is illegally erected on a council sign. Firstly i need to know where we stand as far as removing the sign firstly and secondly there is no law stating that this is their beach. Can anyone give me ideas on how to shut these idiots up and enjoy the sport that has brought us all so much joy. Thanks in advance for your input and response's.
name and shame here!
Or at least describe his kite/gear/appearance so we can give him the appropriate 2 fingered salute on sighting!

Those guys are just trying to stop the council banning kiting at the neck because of people doing silly things, dropping kites, going through the flags ect. If you know the rules you wouldn't have been told off!
narrowneck has flags (swimming areas) upwind and downwind.
when kiters stuff up and ride or crash into the swimmers the council lifeguard come and tell the "pensioners" as mantis put it so nicely! to tidy their mates act up or official complaints will be forwarded to council regarding removal of kiters from the area.
the signs are a suggestion.
those guys have been there forever.(as far as wind sports go.)
it is a free country.
do what you feel is right.
i'm sure they will too.
all the old crew at the neck are cool friendly dudes, introduce yourself, thank them for their concerns and promise that you are competent enough to stay upwind and won't do show off moves 50 yards from the flags.
rant over!

If knobs crash their kites into beachgoers or kite in the flags then they are retards.
I'm taking it that annoyed isn't one of these people though?
The guys at the neck mean well i'm sure and just want to make sure they can keep flying there kites there. Just think happy thoughts and do the right thing which i'm sure you do anyway. You don't need to be a member of SEQKA to kite there it's just advised that if you have a mishap with some one you would be better off.
Myself am NOT a member of SEQKA as i have my own insurance and when some one from SEQKA comes to me and says if i look after them with kites they can do me some favours through the club and push people my way. Seriously i know this guy is full of it but if that kind of person is on the commitee then i will be no part of it.
Cheers Jacko
GEEZ CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG??????

P.s Aloha from Syd WHERE'S DA WIND????????
Dear Annoyed.
SEQKA is committed to trying and educate all kiters, particularly kiters who are not locals or are new to the area.
The sign you mentioned was originally implemented after numerous complaints from the local life savers (in particular Narrowneck) who approached SEQKA to try and rectify a couple of concerns. At the meetings it looked liked it was going to be manditory that all kiters have insurance, being pro active, we assured council we would self regulate, and took the opportunity to do the signs.
The main problems the lifeguards were having involved kiters who resided (generally) outside QLD or Australia and were not aware of the rules regarding kiting through the flags and near swimmers.
The lifeguards do not want to see kiting banned on the main gold coast beaches, however did want SEQKA to try and educate those new to the area of what is expected.
Hopefully this has answered your questions.
please p.m me directly if you have any concerns
Regards
Paul
