In the last few weeks theres been kiters getting blown down wind of Brighton Beach, and not being able to get back. These guys though it would be a good idea to climb up the rock wall/stairs and walk back to the beach along the public footpath with there kites up in the air. Theres even been guys walking back holding onto there inflated kites taking up the whole footpath, blocking people from getting past.
These footpaths get pretty busy with families and small children, so if one of these kiters ends up f__king up and injuring someone,or someone complains to the council, I would hate to see what happens with our kite beach. We might all end up kiting at sandgate.
These kiters know who they are,and need to stop doing this, and if any other kiters are thinking of doing this, DONT.
If you cant get back upwind, walk back in the water, or dont go out kiting, or kite elsewhere, dont ruin it for everybody else.
Yep seen em not a good Idea at all.
But talk to them at the beach as alot of people wont see this, so just say something to them at the beach.
Pointing out peoples mistakes on a internet forum wont change a thing!
enjoy![]()
This has got to be one of the most stupid/dangerous things I've heard in ages, walking along the bike path with your kite in the air is not on , the bike path is only 3 m wide you have tress running the whole way along , a main road WITH POWERLINES running down the other side of the road then houses. I've seen 2 people get lofted over that road and that's from kiting to close to the wall let along walking along it.
For those not familiar with that area if you end up downwind in a ,NE,er you can get out at either the pool ( the safest choice as you will most likely get someone down that end to land you ) , or there is a boat ramp at the end of 12 th ave , there is plenty of grass to roll up your gear and it's not a far walk back to Brighton (5-600 m?). V's about 2k from the pool.but you'll have to self rescue at the ramp as there will be no other kiters to land you.
If you get washed downwind in a southerly , the beach/ park on the otherside of Eventide is a safe bet , again self rescue is necessary.
If you do need to walk back along the bike track , roll your gear up be be mindful of pedestrians and bike riders ...DO NOT TRY AND CARRY YOUR INFLATED KITE DOWN THE PATH,
