The forecast is for a westerly Friday. I have never done a downwinder before let alone from Wellington Point to Dunwich. Has anybody done this before? Are there many hazards? What do you look out for? Would anybody be keen to do it with me? I don't have the confidence to do it on my own at this stage.
As it turns out I already have a ferry booked to head across for a camping weekend Friday morning anyway so I would be getting my girlfriend to pick me up over there if it worked out.
Cheers
Ash
Would love to do a downwinder from The Strand over to Magnetic Island and ferry back! Just waiting on those good SE's!
Defiantly doable , it's a big open expanse of water , if something was to break ie gear failure , you would have a massive swim . Quite a few bities around that rouse channel area.I personally would not do this one without a boat or jet ski as backup.

Agree.....but I'm a pussy when it comes to bities! ![]()
Definitely want a boat as backup, it?s a big expanse of water, fair run of current and if its windy not many other craft around to see you get in trouble.
We have crossed in a yacht in 25-30kns and not seen another boat. go out when it's flat and it's like Queens St.
