Adventure Sports Kitesurf Australia are hosting the annual Coolum Kite Festival Downwinder race again this year for the 5th year. There will also be a full weekend of comps, fun, friends and of coarse as much kiting as the wind will allow.
Prizes have been donated by M8 kiteboarding, JN kiteboarding, Slingshot Australia, KSAdesigns, Adventure sports Kitesurf Australia, Pro Limit, Hive Swimwear & Blueyes. Cash prizes will also be supplied by SEQKA again this year, which is awesome. Event sponsors Lend Lease have come on board via the IGA Coolum Kite Festival to cover any other event costs.
2 Divisions, Division 1 for those seriously competing for a place on the podium and Division 2 for the recreational kiters just looking forward to cruising with up to 100 kiters on the water. Other events scheduled will include a boarder cross relay event and light wind options including freestyle foil kiting and tug along land boarding.
Regsitration is open to all independent kiteboarders who feel comfortable in the surf. $30 per person covers bus, food, competitors bag, event T'shirt and entry into all comps. All entrants will need to be AKSA members to ensure they are covered by insurance etc. We have been in contact with the AKSA to confirm the insurance & registration process and all is good for the 2009/2010 renewal period. The cost of AKSA membership is good value insurance as other insurance options would be $65 US or more and you would not get any further support for beach access, local representation, prize money and other benefits which will continue as the AKSA restructures in the coming year.

Hi everyone, registrations close next Thursday 1st October so get in quick. Don't forget anyone can win a major prize as all registered entrants go in the draw for an F One kiteboard, JN kiteboard & brand new still in the box Slingshot Rev 2 kite.
Surfstyle event and relay/boarder cross events will also be held wind dependent, but even in light wind we have land boarding races & freestyle foil kiting so come along, join in and catch up with kiters from all over Queensland an other states.
FYI Keahi De Aboitiz and Andy Yates are both unable to make the event this year, so for all you guys/girls who have nearly won before, 2009 is your year.
so how did it go looks like the winds were right for it i bet it was sic had too work not fair . any pics , vides i need to know what i mised out on . catch it next year or something comen up close too sunshine coast so i dont mis it too
