Hi everyone,
Just wanted some opinoins on a potential Kite trip to Cairns in Winter,
Could anyone comment on the below?
-Wind strength
-Consistency
-Flat water spots
-Where to stay?
-Getting around (hire car?)
-Anything else I should be aware of/danger spots
Much appreciated! ![]()

I have been twice over ekka weekend to port douglas, and both times, not much wind. Each time there was rumour to be wind some days both south and north, so would recommend you get some spotters so you can get reports on where the wind is at. Port douglas is probably the safest beach in the area.
I think its a conspiracy because my last two visits to Cairns have had SFA wind!
That said, it's great to be stuck there without wind because you can just go hang out at the cable park. ![]()
We booked a trip to Cairns/Port Douglas last year and I even waited until the arrows turned green before I boarded the Plane and still missed out![]()
cheers for the replies everyone, perhaps I will look at other areas, as I want 100% garaunteed wind,
Don't bother going to Cairns or PD ,was up there last year for a week out of the 7 days we were there there was a strong wind warning for 5 of them ,got one day of 20 kts the rest sub 15 kts ,if we didn't take the 19m flysurfer it would have been a wasted trip. You'd be a PD and there would be 12 kts but if you look at the wind readings from low Isles and it was 25kt all day!! WTF it's only 15km away.
If you want good wind you have to go further north CookTown or even furthur!
