Not sure if that is endorsed by the shop mentioned..... but I can promise that Flapjack will demonstrate his knowledge of world geography by telling you the capital of Thailand if you ask him.

Seriously- get there, get involved and it will be great !!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone has been down to Milang recently? Have heard a rumor that it is so low that windsurfers fin's are getting stuck on the sand... Is this likely to effect the event?

Have booked our accom for the event, and the rumours are true on that front. Get in quick because that IS drying up fast.

We were there a couple of weeks ago, and it was very low. As I mentioned in another post, there are some submerged or not so submerged items to dodge now.
There was a windsurfer there who ripped a fin off his board just as we were setting up - out in the middle of the water just off the 'new' sand spit.
The water was also very muddy... Made for good swamp monster impressions.

On the upside, there was some awesome flat water!!

Going there this weekend to check again- was there recently and had no issues. Under the water is a nice soft layer of mud before you hit anything hard. Comp will be run off the sand spit if necessary for extra depth.

The change in water levels has given the best flat water in SA as far as I'm concerned- if you make the effort to come up I think you will see some pretty intense riding !!!!!!!!!!!

when we all grow extra limbs from the gross yellow water, we will be able to do extra grabs aswell. Myself along with a few others wont kite there until the water level gets up and the water cleans up a bit. But i suppose it will be worth it for a bit of flat water.

I drank heaps of it 2 weeks ago and got a good dose of the mud as well- not feeling any effects. Each to their own....

Even if you don't want to ride come down and check it out it promises to be a great day !!!

Hi all,

Some awesome responses to registrations thus far, people are coming from all over the state. Accommodation is starting to get tight; better dust off the swag in case...

There are some skeg breaking sandbars down there, especially inside the old airstrip (long spit). We'll be setting the comp zone in an area with appropriate water depth.

Email me at will@saksa.com.au if you intend on coming down; the more the better. We'd like to get numbers for catering, tshirts etc before next Thursday; we can fix up rego forms and fees on the day as long as we know to expect you.

Regarding the water itself, we have spoken with the Health Department, Department of Environment & Heritage and the EPA and all of them have confirmed that the water is fine for kitesurfing/swimming/recreational use etc. Personally having spent many years down there, yes it‘s low but the water has always been murky….
Look forward to seeing you all down there!

Just let you all know that the water at milang is bad for your health as I know 2 guys who have got major infections to the respiratory system from kitesurfing at that very spot, one bloke was in hospital and it allmost killed him. You guys that kite at milang must know also about the hidden objects under the water which could cause serious injury aswell, I have seen posts and drums under the water at times when the water is low enough to reveal them.
seems risky to me

You're right. It is a dump of a spot. The water is muddy and full of bird crap, there is all sorts of stuff hiddin under the water as well. Not my favourite spot but has been alright on 1 occasion. Don't know if the water is bad enough to land you in hospital though!

I know a few of the contenders are heading there tomorrow (Sunday) to check it out and hopefully score some sweet wind. I'm sure you will get a report on the lakes condition then.

Cheers Croc

i was kiting there today for a 3 hour epic sesh! (Saturday) Water tasted good to me! NAh...the drums and wood and bits are only in one area...stay clear of it and you will be fine. Still...there is lot of fun to be had at Milang, great spot, flat water and strong winds. I will be there tomorrow!

Starting to get amped for a big weekend! just hope the wind turns it on!

Just wondering if there will be any demo stands down there? Im keen to try some bindings

Also what is the general time line for the weekend? Want to make sure that I get there in time on Saturday morning to sort out my rego for the Amatuers before I miss anything. There still isnt mush detail about the event available on the SAKSA site.

Im sure there are some other crew making the trip that would love some more detail too.

Cheers guys, keep up the good work.

All good Casey. The SAKSA Committee has been flat out pulling it together for the weekend. The wind forecast is looking good with southerly breezes. Given it's warm, there'll be a seabreeze so let's pray its a good one...!

I've had a couple of queries for best directions to Milang: basically you go from Adelaide to Strathalbyn via the freeway and Mt Barker (or Meadows if you're on the south side of town). From Strath you exit out the south western corner of the town on the road to Langhorne Creek and the Milang turnoff is on the right about halfway to Lang Creek. Follow that Milang turnoff road until you see water with a heap of kites on it...
From Victor or Goolwa, head towards Strath and cut accross via Currency Creek wines or Finniss...

More details will be up on the SAKSA website this evening...

Nice work Blake. Awesome stuff.

Hopefully we'll be getting some breeze though. BOM are predicting the south coast will be 15 knots southerly Saturday morning up to 18 knots by the arvo. Milang generally cranks a couple of extra knots so looking forward to a sweet day!

Hopefully Sunday will deliver as well. Either way, thanks to Blake there'll be some riding done...

Hey guys, just wondering what the expected level of riding should be for someone to enter the amatuers?

I'm more than happy to front the entry fees to support such a great event, but not sure if I'm at a high enough level to compete yet?.....

Looking forward to meeting crew over a few gargleblasters!

Awesome Casey; that's the spirit!

There's absolutely no prerequisite for Amateurs other than to get amongst it and have some fun. The more the merrier. I'll be in Amateurs and my recent form ain't flash... I'm angling for the biggest stack award.

Maybe the most gargle basters award...
