If you were only allowed only one kite to cover all windranges in Adelaide's local beaches and flierieu Peninsula. What would you rig ![]()
kite size:
make / model:
bar:
harness:
board:
Cost is irrelivant.![]()
I'd have to say JN Prima Donna2 13m. For a rider of about 85kg plus they have a wind range of 15knots to 25knots +.
kite size: 13m
make / model: JN Prima Donna2
bar: JN standard
harness: Flying Objects
board: JN Honey 132 or Bonnie and Clyde 138
Have a look at www.jn-kites.com.au for pricing.
Cheers

have to be the new AIRUSH generator 11.5m.
pulls harder then most of the crew in adelaide when they talk about there last kite session. (thats some serious pulling).
and turns faster then a hot chick running away from a SAKSA meeting.
ride any board bigger then 130 and ya sweet.
just hold on when it gets windy no need for anything smaller.
and the best part is, its still a C kite. no fancy bridles or other funny looking devices, just simple hard pulling power.
go see Gcraft im sure they've got plenty of them to demo you.
enjoy
always your pal the joyrider
Hey Cobbs, I can tell you right now, you could end up with about 15 different answers to your question. A general rule is to stick with the more well known brands. Generally they have better after sales service. And then i have heard a horror story how someone has been shafted by practically every kite company out there.
So here comes my PIMP![]()
Kite. Cabrinha Switchblade 3, 10 or 12m depending on body weight.
Board. Nobile 555 or 666
Harness. What is most comfy and fits best.
Shop. Onboard at Glenelg, the guys know there stuff and are very helpful, and they have a huge range of kites and equipment to check out.
Also if you can, head to Henley just up from the Torrens river mouth when there is a good seabreeze and have a chat to any of the kiters down there. Im sure they will pimp the arse off what ever they are flying![]()
Good luck in your quest, and see you in the water soon, Cheers Kitecroc![]()

Sorry to burst your bubble Cobbs. But there is no way you can have one kite to cover all conditions in Adelaide and if someone tells you otherwise they are full of #@#$. But I will have a go at PIMPING the brand I ride!!!!!!
kite size: 10m
make / model:Liquidforce Havoc 2
bar: Comes with the kite
harness: Liquidforce Luxury
board: Liquidforce Recoil 134
The gear also looks cool unlike some other kites mentioned here
. Flowers and Skulls are so yesterday boys!!!!!
If you want to check some of the latest gear out come down to Henley beach and have a look.
Cheers
Murf
Murf your kites are made from the same print as a bedspread in an eighties porno. Next year they will come with a shag rug canopy !
One kite to cover all conditions in adelaide-
14m Naish Helix.
or
12m Switch blade.
Loving the pimping, keep it coming lads.

Ok well, I'll give it a go.
You really can't go past a Slingshot REV. More depower than Geoff on a 5 metre kite, will handle up to 25 knots with ease, chews gusts like Travis muching on a Wonka bar, pulls harder than Rhys Gardner on a Friday night at My Bar, built stronger than Rhys Higham in the gym, has colours like Crocker after a visit to the solarium, and is more user friendly than a hooker down Hindley St.!!
After all of that, what more can I say.?? The choice is clear!!
kite size: 13m
make / model: Slingshot REV
bar: Comes with the kite
harness: Mystic
board: Liquidforce whatever the hell it is I ride.
go back to the old school
nash arx 2 line kite
sully has a one floating around his garage, or maybe his is a wipika
wipika classic 8.5m two lines no extra lines no chicken loops no fancy bridles of fifth lines pure power and stability oh yeh can't beat the perfection of the first kite ever made
Two line Naish 3.5 7m, fluoro yellow and orange with a pirate face, circa 1999 and still going...
It's dual purpose as I think it actually is a bed spread from an 80s porn.
Complete with the metre long blue/red spanking bar for the pimpin 'who's ya daddy' moments. The bag even folds down into a bumpack so you can look like an 80's porn star...
Don't be a bunch of GOONS!!!
I sold all my gear (2 x Naish Boxers) and bought one kite, the Slingshot Missing Link 10.5m (special edition). Rigged it on 5 lines, took the battons out, and it's the only kite I use.
You can do anything you want mate. Either get a medium sized kite, around 10-12m and you'll ride most seabreezes in Adelaide, or you can get say a 13m and a 9m.
Eventually once you are a confident kiter (sorry, that's assuming you're not already), you'll probably go one way or the other, one kite and a couple of boards, or one board and a couple of kites.
There's no reason you couldn't use one kite for everything. I was out on my 10.5 in 35kts on Tuesday night. Yep, it was a little hairy, but I trusted her not to flip out on me, and when you take the battons out, they never invert (contrary to popular belief it seems)! Slingy all the way!!! Whoever it was above who said go with the known brands... well, Slingshot's one of the best (but not for everyone so I'll get off my high horse now).
But, I can get up and going in 12-15kts too... it's all in your head. Prep yourself and get something decent, and think about what you're doing, and you'll have no trouble kiting almost any conditions. Look at Andy Cas, the lad gets going on a smaller board than any of us, up wind, underpowered and against all odds... why, cos he knows what he's doing.
And finally, if the conditions are dodgey and you're not sure, hell, stay in bed man! There's plenty of opportunity to get out, just pick the good days.
I made up a callendar for this year to track my kiting. I've given away no less than 5 good days since new years, and I've still done 7 out of 15 days... not bad I reckon! Just my rant peoples... geez, I'm gona make some enemies if I don't settle down some...
Peace!
Or... how about the Genetrix Hydra V3 12m with a manufacturers and personally experienced wind range of 10-32knts ![]()
Cheers, the Windhogger
sadly this sport has followed in the foot steps of many other fun sports (wake and snowboarding) and has become more about the look then about the ride.
if your the kinda person who has to ride whatever the mag or the pro says, or just wanna be cool, then so be it, but **** sakes, dont try and preech your crap on the rest of us that just wanna ride.
fare enough you can look like wat ever you want and ride what ever you want, but as soon as your oversized quiver crowds the beach or you arse crack shows cos your shorts are riding so gangster low, then i think its time for you to really take a good hard look at your self.
its sweet to discuss gear and of course brag a little cos your so stoked on your ride, but as soon as it starts to fade away from the real reason we ride, then sorry but its time to check whats going on and remember wat we do now could change the sport, we all love, forever.
