Where should a freestyle kite "sit" in the window? .... or doesn't it matter much?
I am trying to decide on next years quiver and have focus on uh freestyle/wakestyle I guess with raleys, kiteloops, R2B, Sbends .... hopefully B2B and S2B next season.
In my surge for the right kite I am considering everything from "real" C to more hybrid VaporX, C4, Obsession etc.
I tested C4 and VaporX and found that the C4 goes easier upwind. I was the told that's because it sit so forward in the window which makes it a good freeride kite but not optimal for freestyle, as a freestyle kite must sit further back in the window. Others say it should be forward to provide slack etc.
Anyway, I know I must demo to decide - but the different views do wake my curiosity. So where should a freestyle kite "sit" ?? :bye:
Depends entirely on personal preference... but the general consensus is usually that it should sit deep in the window when you've got your speed up ready to unhook, but should be able to be pushed to the edge of the window for depower with heavy board pressure. This description covers most of the more dedicated freestyle kites like the Fuel, Hadlow Pro, Torch, Vegas, etc.
Try and demo one of the above mentioned kites and see if they're your thing.
In terms of usability i'd rate them in order of Vegas > Torch > Fuel > Hadlow Pro; the Vegas being the most soft-core and the Hadlow Pro being the least 'friendly'. Personally, i ride Torches as they're aggressive enough whilst still being forgiving.
Try the Fluidkiteboarding Vice, i have been riding a demo 9m and its a great freestyle kite if you looking for one that also has good depower i guess a inbetween the Fuel and Torch. If you can get your hands on one try it, they are a bit cheaper then the others too.
