i was looking at getting a cabrinha custom, just wanted to see what other people thought of it and whether the boot bindings are worth getting?
cheers, ben
Demo, demo, demo - only way to find out. SHQ have a demo 2012 custom and have some 2010 and 2011s left in stock at good specials too. For their intended use the customs are awesome. I'm an ex-custom rider, now preferring the slightly better bottom end and upwind ability of the 50fifty (which shares many of the characteristics of the custom and also available at SHQ), but customs are excellent fun, so long as you're happy to ride well powered up.
As for boots, I can't comment with any authority, but it seems that they'll only be worthwhile if you're pretty dedicated to pursuing wakestyle and happy to travel to get the flattest water in a given wind direction.
That said, most custom riders ride them with straps and are happy campers.
The Custom works excellent for kiting in all conditions, from flat to chop to waves, with or without boots.
Any board that is less rockered, and with a less rounded outline will start to limit your riding, especially when youre doing wakestyle.
The nose is always up, offering the best landings with the least chance of catching an edge. Lets you ride in chop and wave comfortably.
The Custom obligates you to ride a good size bigger to make up for the efficiency loss (two sizes if you ride boots). Dont be scared by that, youll get so much in return. A bigger board lands so much better. And it finally allows you to ride with a good stance to boardlength ratio![]()
With the bigger size your lowend is just a good as your average twintip.
Yes, I feel some of the better twintips offer a slightly higher performance in pop compared to these wakestyle boards. But you will lose out greatly on comfort and sensation of freedom.
Put on some boots, take off the fins and enjoy the feeling of glide!
