I know it's not a water kite bar but could this be the first glimpse of what the new bar will look like in kiteworld mag.

I think you might be on to something, here's a couple of screenshots from the photo gallery at ozonekites.com/land

That look like a push away chickenloop release to me.

I hope they sell the whole depower line/chicken loop by itself. $400 odd bucks for the bar is way too much!

Current bare contact bar is $219 link below
http://www.kitepower.com.au/ozone-4-line-control-bar-09.html

The new chicken loop will be available as a spare part of course, and will probably retail for similar to the current one, if not a bit more.

@Tobes and turtlehunter - well spotted.

Whats that black line running across the two back lines just above the floats?

^^^ thats the foil kite bar but the new chicken loop should be the same and I would bet the bar and ends may be the same on the water kites. If the grips the same it would be good for my grubby hands too.

Hi toppleover,

That's an emergency kite killer line. When you connect your safety leash to the cross line and fire off the chicken loop quick release, it pulls on the rear (Brake) lines and the kite drops harmlessly to the ground.

Foils kites are much less likely to power up than an inflatable if released as they hold no form when the front lines are slack.

hey DM could only handle a 7 days on the Reo before my ankle started suffering. But had over a dozen sessions on every type of wave I could find over the last fortnight and I am still learning the boundaries. One that has been surprising is my fat arse hauling up wind back to the peak quicker than anyone. Might also add the kite does boost (easier on the ankle than hitting the white water head on).

The CL is the same as the proto I saw several months ago, just this one is a production proto and in production colours.

The bar in the first pic is a proto, and its not like whats coming. The second pic is the current contact bar fitted with a proto chicken loop.

The black line connecting the the rear lines, is a self landing line. It is used to land the kite and then hook under you harness hook to keep the kite grounded. As DM said though a leash can also be connected to it, although all 2012 Ozone land/snow kites have a below the bar front line flagging system, same as water kites (but different in that the kite is a foil).

So is the release date still October some time, or has it been revised???.

Heard a whisper it may be later rather than sooner.

^^^ With the update of the magnetic retainer for the trim line.

This is a great bar. I understand some of the surfboard riders preferring soft ends, but other than that - and it's not even a factor on twintips - the current contact bar is awesome. Super simple chicken loop and safety, easy and precise trim, and the lineset makes so much sense with 500kg for the front and 300 kg for the rear lines.

I'm sure the new bar will be awesome, but the current one still ticks all the boxes for me.

I'm really sorry about the suspense, I've been waiting and hoping Ozone could pull a rabbit from a hat but all I can tell you is that its not going to be soon according to the limited information I have been given. There is some sort of delay due to Ozone's owners not being happy with the quality of the prototypes they have been sent, meaning that the moulds for some of the parts need more work and tweaking then more testing.
If you buy a new Reo, 2012 Catalyst Edge or C4 with a current Contact bar, you will be able to easily upgrade the chicken loop at a later date.

It's not just chicken loop i am interested about.
Cause these pictures pretty much show, that the new bar will be a totally new system,
whole body, bar ends seem to be different, and that's the reason im waiting for it to be published..

So, new customers to Ozone can expect to get an 2011 bar for their 2012 kite and then have to pay for a 2012 upgrade???

If this is right that,s BS Ozone!

Not impressed!!!

It's a bar. A straight stick with 4 lines and a fixed attachment in the middle.

They really haven't changed in 10 years

Steer the kite, make it go.

Why the fuss and hype every year?

Ozone do things a bit differently, the current bar is not a "2011" bar, it is the current bar, thats it. The current bar was delivered with the 2010 kites, and only underwent a very minor upgrade in late 2010 around the same time as the 2011 Catalyst and C4 were released. This bar was rated as one of the best on the market by Kiteworld Magazine. The current or 2011 bar as some people want to call it, is completely functional, and is currently being used NOW by a few thousand kiters with no issues.
We've learned a lesson about letting info get out before we have fully developed a new product. The latest info that I have is that the new bar will now be several months away. Ozone are very particular with stuff like this, because once they release it, the new bar will be in production for at least a 2-3 years, so it has to be 100% right, and at the moment the samples coming through from the manufacturer are inconsistent, so its going to be delayed until Ozone find a solution that will allow them to release a product that is true to the brand image of quality high funtionality, tested by kiters for kiters.

Don't delay experiencing an Ozone kite due to the prematurely leaked new bar info and unavailability of the "new bar".

Would this be the same bar review which did not even feature a test on the north bar?

^^^ So review it yourself then. It's not Ozone's fault that your brand's bar may have been overlooked for a review.

So how can it be a genuine review of 2011 bars , if arguably the best bar on the market is not even mentioned?maybe north don't fund enough adds in the mag?
