Reading the post is required [}:)], 105kg in Perth.....seriously these posts come up regularly but if you're going to respond then atleast read the post.

Would be good however to know what budget and which kites you might be considering.

Would be nice if he cut out the crap so we didn't have to find the weight sifted in between all the other info he didn't fill in.

I.e. A single sentence post.

Hey man,
If ya keen for a great price point and lets face it most newbies are you cannot on this fact alone, go past the GRIFFIN Argo 10m or 11.5m which is a exceptional alrounder kite. Not only is it safe but it's grunty, and it has excellent water relaunch(auto relaunch) for those water dips..... lets face it your gonna have em. These kites are well made and fly even better. It is a kite that your gonna keep to. Check the site, talk to Chris, you won't be disappointed. And you will get into the sport at an awesome price! With all the added benefits of an AUSSIE owned company.

go to your local store, tell them where you would like to take your riding in the future;

freeride
surfboard
wake
etc

ask for them to suggest what kite you will grow with instead out of.

lastly choose a brand that is supported with spares incase you break it.

Tips for a newbie kite

Stability - medium aspect is more stable than high aspect
Relaunch - a curved leading edge allows for much easier relaunch
Wind range and depower - a kite that has grunt and can depower in the gusts
5th line. For beginners I would avoid 5th line. If you crash and roll the kite in deep water and the 5th line wrapes around the kite you have a long swim and an untangle.
Also 5 th lines in waves getting dumped could wrap around the kite.

So look for a non 5th line. Medium aspect curved leading edge kite with good leading edge stitching and bumper reinforcements. The Argo is a good learner and advanced kite

Typed on my iPhone so ignore typos and grammar.

Hi vimes, I just bought the 2012 airush lithium. Couldn't be happier with it. Great relaunch, light bar pressure and will get you from beginner to advanced! Check out the review in the forum... Just click airush and you will find it....

I'm with Berko!
I've been kiting for 2 weeks now. Went to Airborne in Osbourne Park and the guys there suggested a 2012 airush lithium. Tried it out and loved it. Very smooth and stable in the sky. I have crashed a lot being a beginner and find that when i let go of the bar the kite usually just depowers and floats above my head. When it does hit the water it bascially relaunches itself when you grab the bar. Its so easy.

Also I have seen the guy who served me at Airborne (Blake I think) out at pinnaroo and he has given me some advice and tips to help me improve.

Great Service, great kite

This is my first season. I bought a 2011 griffin argo 10m and a 137 griffin twin tip. It has been great. My progression has been a lot better than other guys i started with and this has no doubt been helped by some stable, user friendly gear. Have just started boosting and backrolling so i think the kite will stay with me well into the intermediate phase as well. Last weekend i got myself in a jam and the kite was repeatedly slamming itself in the water. I thought t would break for sure. I got to shore, untangled and relaunched without a hitch. I couldnt believe it. Super sturdy. From the point of view of a newbie who knows nothing its been a great kite.
