Any one already some experience with the big size DOS.
My bodywight is 95 kg and i have a 131x40 board. I´m looking for a 2 kite quiver.
I want to kite in winds 13-35 knts wind. I already had some exchange of thought with Ral Inn and i think 12-9m2 will be the best quiver.... BUT !!!!! what do you guys think about 14m2-9m2 quiver ? Or will the 14m2 be to big and slow?
Please help..... Who has some experience with 14m2 DOS
Thx ![]()
Can't help you with the Dos it's self, But I'm 102kg and ride a 14m -10m North Rebel Combo with a surfboard and a 135.
You might have low end issues with a 131 and a 12m kite in 13 knots
That said 14m kites are slower than 12m kites and I jump on the 10m as soon as a can, usually >22 knots
Hi guys
Mini Me, your board size is fairly small for light wind riding. You kind of have two options, a light wind board or a bigger kite.
The 14mtr Bandit Dos is much quicker in the air and turning than the 13mtr Bandit 08. As always, bigger kites tend to be slower, but I have ridden 12mtr kites slower than the 14mtr Dos. It is supper stable, so handles pitchy gusty wind well.
We would suggest 14mtr & 8/9mtr. We have a local 95kg rider on a 13mtr 08 & a 10mtr 09 quiver and it works well for him. We are warmer here, meaning 13 knots for us is fairly light. Your 14mtr will start you in 12knots or so "cooler air" up to 18knots at least (could go as high as 23 but starts to get a bit scary) and the 8/9mtr will start at about 17knots. (the 10mtr starts earlier, but will be really grunty and probably overpowered at 30plus knots) With your board size you will have a reasonable overlap with the 14 & 8 or 9mtr.
George has ridden on a 14mtr with a 148 board in 6knots (true). Anything the 12mtr Dos can handle with your weight and board size the 14mtr will be fine.
Basically when you want the quick ride you get the smaller kite out in 17plus no worries. Hope this helps.
Have Fun!
George & Fiona
Thx KSA.
My reference is a 14m2 and 10m2 Thruster. For the last couple of years i had the 14m2 and 10m2 Thruster kites. The 14m2 get me starting in 13 knts and i always jump to my smallest kite as soon as possible. 18 knts i take my 10m2 out of the bag up to 35 knts...
They say the 13m2 uno has the same power as the 12m2 DOS. So your local rider could be fine on a 12m2 Dos... Is this true??
What will be the reasonable lowend for a 8m2 DOS (95 kg rider)
And what will be the highend (not overpowerd) for a 95 kg rider for the 9m2 DOS.
Thx again
Ps Sorry for my English
Hi mini me
In all fairness, you can't really compare a bandit to most kites, it is a Delta C and nothing like a C or a bow/hybrid to fly. About the closest would be a rebel with feel, but way gruntier.
The 14 handles as fast as many 12mtr kites and probably faster than some such as the 08 switchblade 3. You can pump it to get going and park it in very light wind, it flys well back in the window (ie right down wind) which is one of the reasons why it gets going so early.
The local guy I mentioned would not get up on the 12mtr as early (neither do i and i only weight 59kg), purely because the 12 doesn't have the grunt or turning speed in light wind. That sounds strange I know, but the 14 turns very well in light wind as it is especially tuned that way.
If you are going to jump on your smaller kite most of the time anyway then the bigger kite is realistically your light wind machine, therefore the 14 would be the best choice. If you wanted to ride your biggest kite all the time, then maybe the 12, but you definatley wont get up as early.
Personally and with most of the feedback we have had from customers is that the 10 is a grunty beast and we believe you might be overpowered at 35knots on it, but that is your call, the 9 is just that little more forgiving at the top end and will fly basically as early.
Up to you in the end, but the 14bandit is an awesome kite due to its power really being equiv to a 15 in most kites, with the performance and turning of an average 12 or 13mtr kite.
CU and have Fun

I think that for a 2 kite quiver get the 14 and 8m I weigh 95 just got a 12 & 8m dos and have a selection of boards but allso a 15m rev from last year and i ride allmost every condition. i find the 12m in under 15kts with a 130 tt board can become prone to back stall but is fine with a 137 tt ,skim or surf board down to 10-12 kts top end on the 12 is huge i wouldnt come back in unless the gusts were constantly over 30 kts. as for the 8m it is a super grunty kite that i have had out from 15kts with bigger boards up to 35kts with lots of depower left wouldnt hesitate taking it out in 40-45kts. the bandits this year are that good a lot of people are getting just a one kite quiver like a 10m if your 75kgs so with that in mind in my opinion the 12 and 8m have a verry large overlap and if you want the widest range go the 14 and 8 but if your not sure grab a demo.![]()
Thx WAXMAN...
When i go for the 14m2 - 8m2 then i have to wait to long before i can dump the 14m2 for a smaller kite. I hope the 9m2 will get me started in 18 knts up to 35.
Sure i must demo the kites but it's very difficult, if not impossible, to demo al the sizes in al the differant windrange areas.
thx again
Dont be woried about the grunt of the 8m it is insane if it was 17 kts you would be cruising on your board. last season i rode the 7.5 bandit and thought it was the best kite i had ever flown untill a flew the new 8m it is unreall i had it out in 15kts gusting to 20 riding a 137 and my mate was on a new 14m switchblade ids and i absolutely killed him upwind. one of the lads that got last years 9 and 13 got a 7.5 for his girlfriend and rode the 7.5m mor than the 9m. At the moment i am thinking of getting rid of my 12m dos and 15m rev and just riding the 14m dos instead as i think when you get the 14m in to the 20kts+ would be absolute nuts.
Waxman... What are you saying?????
Please concider my one board quiver, bodywight, and the sweet spot of both kites.
What will be "THE" best 2 kite quiver and why
just a bit side tracked i was just saying that the range is huge the sweet spot is huge(the sweet spot being well powered as it is a verry grunty kite). so if you got a 14m riding your 131 10kts should see you on your board swinging the kite by 12kts you would be just riding kite parked small jumps unhooking etc. 15-20 well powered and jumping huge loads of pop from the kite and good speed. over 20kts not to gusty just drop a not on the middle line you could do this in the water if yo wanted or land it quick and easy gives the kite way more depower and you could go out for a session of big floaty jumps if you wanted to. That would be about the limit of the 14m with your weight and board size if your a competent rider.
The 8m on your 131tt would be riding well powered by 17kts would have to swing it in the luls ride full powered by 20 kts boosting unhooking20-30kts is the sweet spot on this kite jumps straight up huge is verry comfortable to unhook when you depower a bit and when you stack it and let go of the bar hardly pulls at all 30 to 40kts you would be lit on the standard knot but is still good but if you drop a knot it will be just well powered. the extreme top end of the kite depends on how experienced you are. normally if i ride this kite over 17kts i would be riding a 129tt lunacy which is my fav board. this kite is my faverate it just handles anything you do with it.
One of our local team riders just switched to the 8m bandit from last years 9m because it had better bottom end and top end havent ridden this years 9m yet as nearly every one gets the 10m but after riding last years 9m found that 30kts and over this kite is lit but i could have droped a not and rode a bit more depowered and comfortable. I have seen the extreme top end of the 9m and it was a verry experienced guy weighing around 110kgs out in 45kts insane.
At the end of the day you wont regret buying either the 8 or 9m as they are fantastic kites lots of grunt dont be scared of riding them powered up as that is where they excell and try droping a knot because thats what they are there fore and if you find that droping the knot has killed the power to much just pull in the straps on your bar on the back lines and the lines will be back to the original length.
hope this helps it is just what i have experienced riding the bandits last year and dos this year![]()
Hi Waxman, pretty well sums up the kites nicely.
Agree with you, have recommended the 9mtr mainly cause that is probably a closer size and cross over where as the 12 & 8 go really well together from most accounts here for the slightly lighter guys around 75kg especially.
There is nothing like the 14mtr for light wind though. Tuned just right, supper stable, plenty of depower as you mentioned on the centre line knots and rides fantastic unhooked with no depowering. Fast in the air and easily parks early.
Have Fun!
Cu Fiona
Thx again for the replays. It gives me a good idea about the kites.
@ Waxman... you say the 8m2 would be riding well powered by 17kts but the
F-one site says that the Claimed Wind Ranges for 8M2 dos (rider 75kg) will be 18-40 knts ![]()
You say its possible to ride the 8m2 (95 kg rider) beginning at 17 kts ?
The smaller bandits can generate a lot of power due to the speed they turn i have found it imposible to stall the 8m in over 15kts it justflys forward faster and faster. I think that you would be happy with either the 9 or the 8 both awsome kites. If you think you may not like riding the 14m in the top end to much grab the 9m but dont be to scared to give it a go as the kites are solid and stable depower and sheet kite out and it just floats in the sky almost 100% depowered. I got the 8 because we get huge wind in whyalla and i can be a little bit more comfortable on it.
Went out last night on the 12m dos gusting to 25knots and still had lots of depower left but boosting bigger than ever i think i could hold this kite to 30![]()
Hope that m8 get some more in soon so we can see some more of these out on the water
Hi guys,
Just back from Sandy Point and 4 days of 10m Bandit riding.
can't do much in the way of comparing to other kites as it was a big windsurf meeting and mostly I was the only kiter.
But can say my 95kg and 131x39 board was most happy from 16kts but there were time below that and still happily upwind and jumping.
On monday it was great up to 30kts. and a arvo wave session saw the wind get a bit higher. for me this was the point when I absolutely needed to go the shorter centre line knot but my worn out body said " pack up 9am - 6pm is enough.
Based on some extrapolation the 9m with use of the centre line knot will easily see your top end limit. and even adding say 4kts to the bottom end will see the 9m happy from 20kts.
the focus is then on under 20, and if a 14 is plenty comfy at 20kts then maybe that is the logical way to go. But if the 12 has only 2 more knots in bottom end on the 10 then it may well be enough.
By the sounds of what has been said above, you probably won't regret any choice you make.
G'Day saw the thread and instantly was interested. Some very informative stuff and though you might be able to put my mind ease.![]()
I'm about 85kgs beginner (bordering intermediate but dont think I'm quite there yet). I just bought a 10m DOS and 135x39 Trax III. Had to do all over the net without demo's as over seas with work and didnt want to have to wait for my order to arrive weeks after I get home before i could go riding. ![]()
Basically I'm wanting to go the single kite quiver and figured the 10 would be a happy medium to get me out in most conditions year round (work alot and have to take any chance I get).
Have I made the right choice?
Have payed for but not recieved or riden (still overseas) so still have scope to change mind![]()
Not too sure on your average winds in SA but I reckon you have made a good choice Casey.![]()
I am about 90kg and ride a 10mtr DOS with a Underground FLX 135 x 41 and am loving it, it charges upwind, jumps big and floats you back down nice and easy.
I also have 7.5 and 13mtr 08 Bandits and surfboards but believe that when I am on the twin tip I will be riding the 10 nearly all the time. The 10 only needs a couple of knots more wind than the 13 to go upwind and is more fun to ride so I will probably end up selling the 13 as I can't see it getting used that much anymore. The 7.5 will be used for the surfboard or strong wind days but I think the 10 will be able to handle fairly strong winds anyway I just haven't had the chance to try it's top end out yet.
I haven't ridden the Trax III so can't comment on that but I'm sure you will be stoked with your 10 DOS. ![]()
CASEY THE 10M WILL BE THE PERFECT ONE KITE QUIVER THE TOP END WILL BE HUGE AND THEY FLY REALY WELL BIGGER BOARD ON THE LIGHT DAYS UNDER 15KTS BUT AFTER THAT YOU WILL BE CRUISING.
TOOK THE 14M DOS OUT FOR A SPIN ON THE WEEKEND FINALY (THANKS TIMY) THIS KITE WAS STABLE BUT TURNED WELL WHEN YOU WANTED IT TO AND WAS EASILY A FAV KITE AS THE LOWDOWN GRUNT WAS GREAT NEVER FELT OVER OR UNDER POWERED AND THE WIND WAS 13 TO 19KTS LOOPED WELL AND WHILE RIDING DIDNT FEEL LIKE IT WANTED TO RIP YOU OFF THE WATER BUT WHEN YOU WENT FORE IT IT JUST DID SO COOL. THE BAR PRESURE IS SO LITE COMPARED TO THE 12 AND WITH THE BIGGER BAR TURNED VERRY SIMILAR. YOU COULD RIDE THIS KITE ALL DAY AND NEVER GET TIRED![]()
THE BANDIT DOS RULES!
hi guys,
so as there are more people tested the Dos 12 and 14 meter sizes, is there a real difference in low end for these kites? Someone mentioned that one was riding the 14 meter in 6 knots with SS Glide?
Is there a difference in upwind ability in marginal conditions, let's say 10 knots for 80 kg rider?
I'm now riding 14 Vegas 2008 and when I tested the 12 meter Vegas 2008 I couldn't find any better bottom end with the 14 compared to 12. My fear is that with the 14 Dos and 12 Dos the situation is similar...
It was also mentioned that with the 14 Dos one is able to kite all day long without getting tired, so is the force to the harness via chicken loop light? I have a bad back and looking for an easy solution =/
Thanks for any feedback!
havent tested 14m but own 12m. 12 will get me going from 13kt on my 141x48 nobile ext and hold me until 25-30kt on my 132x41 666. I'm 110kg
