Hi guys

I am the happy owner of a 2009 12m switchblade from cabrinha, and I am using it a fair bit, at least when the wheather is good and that I don t have to work. I am writing because I have a question that spending 1 h at looking at my bar did not solve.

It so happens that on the 2009 cab bars, there is the IDS line that goes through the bar, into the second release pin. My line started to shown weakness because it was worn, so I decided to change the line. Plus, I had a spare anyway, so I micht as well use it, I though.

The problem arrived when I compared the lenghts of the two IDS lines : the new one is 10cm longer than the old one. And after 1h of hard thinking, I could not decide if I should make a knot so that both lines are the same lengths or if the length is not that crucial. i had the impression that the second line (the black one) had to be shorter than the IDS, because I cannot understand why anything would change by release the IDS if that s not the case. But the IDS line was sold for that purpose, so is there an error somewhere ?

I d like any advice ....

cheers
OZ
How is it working on the 2010 version ? any expert ?

Not sure if i understand correctly.
You are talking about your replacement 'IDS landingline' being longer than the worn out one, right?

That is not much of a problem since there is no force on the line while flying.
Also the end of that line is connected with a bungee to keep the landingline somewhat tensioned for an uncluthered look.

If the landingline is too long, or if the bungee has worn out, the landingline will hang in a loop. Not a problem, just not very clean.

I suggest you install the landingline and see if the line is hanging, or that it is nicely tensioned by the bungee. If its hangin, check if the bungee is broken.

Dont lay any knots in the landingline. It should run freely through your bar up to the swivel when you activate QR1.

IDS is works through the bridle. The landingline is just a tool to activate IDS. It is activated when the powerlines are 3 of 4m shorter than the backlines.
In this case, when you activate QR1.
Letting go of the bar, except for holding the centerline near the swivel, will have the same effect.

hope this helps

I dont understand what you have got either.

I replaced my 2009 IDS line with the upgraded IDS line with the black polyurethane cover, and dont remember noticing any difference in length. There was a problem with the 2009 bungee line too, in that it lost its stretching properties, and there was an upgraded version of that too, which I got from the shop I bought the kite from.

Have a look at the videos from the Cabrinha site and see if they answer your questions

The IDS system was changed quite a lot for 2010 and its best to not get the two years equipment mixed up.

to terminal : I only replaced the landing line, and not by the polyurethane coated version.

to blacktip : very helpful video. I did exactly what they show until 1:11, and instead of changing the bungee like in the video, I simply proceed invertly, replacing the worn landing line by the new landing line.
I was concerned that the new landing line would not work because of the extra 5 cms, and indeed it is hanging a bit when the worn line was streched. Therefore I was scared that there might be a problem. But if you say that the length is not crucial, then it is all good.

Thanks to you both !

I actually love my kite !
But I have a Airrush switch as a board.
Not sure if cabrinha is good at making boards. Some companies with more experience might be better...

Lebaz go to Kitepower, WS&S or ESS and get the black plastic coated IDS line, and a new bungee, you should not be using the old uncovered landing line, and all dealers have free replacements for those parts.

Cabrinha do make excellent boards. This years Custom is the best yet IMO, excellent ride and hold in chop and not so hard to go upwind in lulls. Synch lace ups this years are the most comfortable version and are my favourite of all the stap pad combos I've tried this year.

I agree footpads and straps r comfy but not so nice when the strap cracks beside the bolt hole and ur strap comes off half way through a down winder, wouldnt b such an issue if cabrihna had replaced gear months ago when they said they were going to, im still waiting cabrihna

anyways i will not b buying cabrihna ever again

Go to your dealer, they should have spare parts for Cab Sync blocks that have cracked. There was a small batch of synch blocks that did not have enough fibre reinforcing in the plastic, the replacement ones are super strong.
If your dealer is not close to you, or does not have the blocks, contact me and I'll post you one or as many as you need.
Which year and model board is it?

Fins are available now, so are the blocks for the syncs, get your shop to contact another cab dealer to sort the parts for you asap.
