i bought a custom towards the end of last summer and no problems at all so far. i did the fin screws up firmly and then checked them after a few sessions in case they'd bedded in a bit. i think a couple received an extra 1/8 of a turn. checked them again recently and all screws were good.

none of the local crew who i know have had hassles with cab fins either.

p.s. the custom absolutely rocks and i get excited just thinking about it. come on huey!

cabrina, ha!! Try a naish board, i have lock-tited everything on including the handle.
footpads kept falling off often at the end of each session, fins just fall off, never to be seen again, and they are 35 bucks a pop.

Ive had my Custom for about a year now and havent had an issue with fins coming off or even coming loose. Probably havent checked the tightness of the screws for at least 6 months now as then i feel the fins they still feel rock solid.

Tommy 123, have you had to take your fins off regularly (ie to pack the board up to travel, etc)? Just wondering if it has something to do with the frequency of removing fins? But thats just a thought and i could be totally off the mark.

*edit* - sorry this does not help

got some .75" fins for my board but they were for a smaller diameter strew and had no shims - so worked loose and fell off. Been riding with 1 fin since Feb. Too lazy to fix them.

Try finless. Channels on the cab would help (calibre has channels??). Takes some getting used to but is fun.

I had one of the first ss lunacy boards to come out, and everyone that had one in Whyalla had fins fall off. I found a trip to the boat shop for some slightly longer stainless steel screws did the trick + some blue loctite. The longer screws will also help the issue of stripping the thread. Just be carefull when running in shallow water it doesn't do the fins much good.

Cabrinha fins suck this is mine on my twinny

Less than 80 hours on the board and **** is exploding... I doubt I will ride it much longer

Chopping board...$5 makes about 10 fins!

The more hours one spends riding in the water, the more they should check over their gear to ensure everything is tweaked and tight. A mild form of lock tight can be used to ensure the screws dont loosen as easily. Those riders that ride their board on hard objects, ie sand, rocks etc... will only increase the risk of damage to their fins/board. It always surprises me when I is see a rider riding up the beach, grinding their fins in the sand, rather than hopping off the board in knee deep water when finishing a kiting session.

Everytime I kite I roll up kite when I get home unroll it inspect for microtears to get repaired of needed. I check all the lines and everything else on the bar, I then proceed to torque all my screws as needed.

This is just flat out bad build quality on the fins blowing out like that...

SlicerDicer,
The bottom of the fin in your photo looks like it has been ground down over time on a hard surface (eg sand etc)... I could be mistaken. I just would be very surprised if that damage was caused by riding in nothing but water alone. The big hole in the side could have been cause from hitting a hard object or just the constant abuse of the fin being scraped over time. The Cabrinha fins are very light when compared to some of the solid G10 fins being offered. Stay away from hard surfaces when riding, and you should minimize the risk of having faulty fins. It is not to say that fins will never fail, but rather if a fin is used in the way it has been design, the risk of failure will be minimal.

Looking at the build quality of the lamination shows its crap mate...

the way that plug came out shows they just rammed in composite and did not layer it worth a broke dick... sure I hit it on the reef that was prior damage however if it was to break it should have delaminated down the middle not just popping peices out like that. Layer something together properly it should not split like that.

I love my Cabrinha gear but that fin just makes me mad.

Cab fins/boards have a slightly different bolt than most other brands. Something about the size of the screw and the thread. I was told once by my dealer and completely forgot. Tried to use fins from another brand on the Custom and they lasted about an hour before I lost em in the water. Never had issues with my cab fins on cab board though.

Damn thats pretty bad :/

I have Cabrinha footpad but I have used mystic footstrap and now I am using the Dakine xlace .

these style footstraps never gave me issues. I have used the sync but I do not like the damn things

These are what I use to hold down my footstraps to the board.

I am going to say though after today and my experience with my speedwing fins today and my new directional board. I am doubting I will use a twinny too much anymore.
