I think there is something else which may alter the best design for a twintip/mutant for kiting in waves if going custom.
The rotatable footstraps have the effect that your heels move about 6" when you change direction, so that is a bit like having two sets of footstraps that are in two positions. So each time you change direction, your feet move 3" toward the rear of the board. That should mean that compared to fixed footstraps, you could lengthen the twintip by about 2" to 3" between the release edges, or have the effect that the board feels that much smaller.
Hey Funky,
m8, they don't make it anymore, but the Chopstick has rails that wrap all the way to the deck plane. No ABS showing.
The tips are noticeably narrower than the mid section.
They are rounded, lifted tips.
Sounds like a pretty good fit to what you're after.
I have a 149 with sync bindings and it's way smoother than any other TT I've rode in the surf.
However, I haven't tried your Undergrounds or the King & Mako yet either. When winds blowing proper my custom goes upwind better but can be a bit jarring on the ol' knee bones. So, I get back on the choppie and happy days. They carve tight arcs on small waves - with a bit of weight over them. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned them in this thread yet. The crew at Addiction still has some floating around I think.
One thing I found was the long cab fins seemed a bit sticky in the 50mm
and didn't seem to do jack in the 35mm . I changed to the more upright North 45's and it goes heaps better for carves and popping off foamies & bumps and stuff.
I have a brand new alkita TT wave from Franz Olry, latest model june 2013, received from a friend who owed me a board.Had a go on it just to find out and it plains reallky quickly but amazingly goes upwind compared to the ones before. of course made for waveriding (asFranz is a poure wave guy) he does them now with two fins in the back of each side of the board, tucked inder edge and grab rail. I will sell it because I allready have 7 board (tt wave and very lightwind surfboard) I spend the summer in WA since 26 years, before windurfing and kiting since 1999. Sp?nd a few months every year in Fuerte and for the rest Belgium and some trips to Mauritius and Barbados mainly. If interested leert me know, I can send a photo by mail, greets, Pat
