I'm riding a stock epoxy kiteboard currently that is getting on a bit now and coming from a surfing background I want that lively surfboard feel again.

Returning to live in Sydney and looking to get a normal PU surfboard shaped to the specs I have in mind already but need a recommended shaper/manufacturer in the Sydney area that I can talk directly with and who is just a little more kite oriented in terms of understanding needs, glassing, durabililty, inserts etc. Any suggestions?

Is there a recommended glass weight/combination that normally suffices for kiting. I don't mind mild heel pressure dings for the sake of a lively board. Or...does anyone have any experience with finding a normal surfboard that suits then getting a little extra deck reinforcement as needed and inserts added (yeah yeah...go strapless...I know...but if it's short period messy onshore waves that require constant hoping over I like to surf with just a loose front strap for less board retrieval - and yes I know the potential dangers associated with one strap but this post isn't about that).

Thanks.

I have had many surfboards made by local Sydney surf board shapers. Mostly you tell them what you want, and they make you what they want. Flowsurfboards.com.au Filip was the only shaper who made what I wanted. A kite-surfboard with reinforcements in the right places and reinforced fins and the right shape and rocker.

He is a kite surfer and surf board shaper. Many riders in Sydney use his boards and he is on the northern beaches and well priced. Disclaimer: I don't make anything out of recommending his gear.

Also you could check out Delta designs. I know it is not Sydney however the freight isn't much and the boards are sweet and kite specific.
