Anyone knows the difference between the 2009 and 2010 RPM's in relation to wave riding, especially the size 6m.
I am 70kg, and I have a 9m and 13m Rev's. I would choose the rev as my small kite for waves, but their size 7m is a bit too powerful for stronger winds, and the 5m needs too much of it......so I left with the choice of RPM
any advise (based on experience, please)
thanks

From what i have heard the kite itself is basicly the same, just has the new style bar that comes with the octanes.

Try one and see what you think, the RPM vs Octane size for size, the octane definatly has more grunt.

Maby hold out and try the Key delta hybrid could be just what you are after for a small kite. Or get something that isnt a Slingshot kite. The only way you are going to find a kite that best suits you is to try as many as you can.

I have tryed both and the octane was fairly similar to the rev in the way you got the power out, the RPM just felt gutless, I didnt try all the settings but found it sat a little to far forward in the window to generate a lot of power which at 90kgs i realy need. it was a nice kite to fly but i think if i was going to get some i would have to size up my quiver to get the bottom end i need.

Slingshot recomend the octane as there surf kite and best allround kite, the fuel is there grunty freestyle kite and the RPM is just average at everything. Peoples views may vary depending on there skill, and riding style and the more you use a particular kind of kite the more used to it you get and the posibility of getting the maximum out of it are more likely.

Jackgearo, If you have an opinion on the subject why dont you just say what you think. That would make your post more relavent. What in your opinion makes the RPM the gruntier kite? Is it the smaller jumps, easyer unhooking for wakestyle moves? very interested in your reply.

I have 2009 RPM's, previously having owned Rev 1 & 2's. I think the RPM has slightly more bar pressure than the Octane which I have flown briefly and I feel more grunt. Friends who have Octanes have commented on this after trying mine. On the Freestyle setting ( longer pigtail coming off leading edge for front bridal) the kite has less grunt, more de-power and flies more forward in the wind window - and opposite for the Wake-style setting ( smaller pigtail for front bridal).
A 6m RPM would be a great kite, but may not have a good low end for lighter wind days but probably a very high top end. I'm comfortable flying my 12m from 13 - 24kts or so, and have flown the 10m up to 35kts gusting( 82kg on twin-tip). Unlike the Rev's they don't jelly or surge forward in gusts and are very stable kites.
This year according to various web sources, the only change is the Comp Stick bar ( same as Octane) and colours.

the only reasonI think the rpm has more grunt is because i (several times) have jumped from a 10rpm to a 11 octane and i think the rpm has only a tiny bit more power..... having said that the settings you can change on the rpm has a big difference to the kite.

just my opinion

I have a 6m RPM which i use with a surfboard , great kite 18 to 20 knots plus . I think the difference between the 09 and 10 is the graphics bar and some bridle changes .

i have the 6m 2009 its got a good low end,

i originally thought the 2010 kites were going to be exactly the same,
then i read a post on kiteforum stating each size had been tweaked slightly.

always fly them on wakestyle mode! it just feels better

Thanks for all the feedback. It sounds there is no significant change/difference between the two models. Just like between the revs (1 and 2).
Waxman, what is the Key delta hybrid? New brand, style...not sure what you are referring to...

hi guys
The key has been made to replace the T3 by slingshot cant say what its like yet but should have my demo one next week so wind providing ,can give you some feed back soon .
Now back to the RPM is there a lot of difference between 09 & 010 in the bigger kites not much but in the 4 , 6 , & 8 they have reworked the bridal ( hope they havnt changed the 8 much as it was probably my favorite small kite last year in the surf ). Up here on the sunshine coast the RPM has gain alot of popularity and ive got knew models going out to guys who had last years, so should be able to tell you what they think of them soon (they will know if theirs a differance as they use them every day its windy )
And then theirs the big question OCTANE or RPM in the surf up here more and more RPMS seem to end up getting used in surf but in other areas aparantly octanes are the go ,myself i like the C shape feel of the RPM in the surf ( sits back in the window ,has to be flown to make power ,but can be ridden at , down the line and realy thight loops with little input from bar when you need it ) so the rpm works for me but then again ive seen BEN WILSON out there on his octane and hes alot better than me,so if you can give both a good go .
Have fun
GEORGE
