So, I have a quiver of RRD Obsessions - SLE kites. I ride them unhooked and also use for boosting. Everything is good.

Then I have a North Vegas 10m 2009. I like it a lot for unhooked stuff, but I do feel I don't have the technique to get full potential for doing hooked in things with it? Maybe there are some tricks - besides just getting more feel with it?

1. With my SLEs, I jump pretty high! I ride at speed, keep edge, put the kite at 2 o'clock, then wile keeping my edge I pull the kite hard from 2 back to 11 and I boooost.
When doing it on the Vegas I don't go very high ???? At all actually !!!

2. When doing a backroll transition or just and air transition with my SLEs I come out with speed when I drop the kite into the powerzone. With the Vegas I don't get the power to come out of the transition with speed and just drop in the water. Sucks !!

Unhooked I have no problems. And there I some times boost unintentionally high unhooked when the kite goes up.
It's the more "old school" hooked in stuff that I don't have much succes with.

Any tips?? I am sure it's not the kite. I had same experience when trying Torch and Hadlow.

Hi mate,

The traditional SLE will always give you more power but at the sacrifice of kite sensitivity and steering. not always a big difference. The 2009 Vegas was a bit of a dud, unfortunately the 2008 model was far superior however the 2010 is easily one of the best kites made this year. My advice is to sell all your kites, buy a new quiver of 2010 and get to know one style of kite. The techniques of c to sle is different enough that if you are dialled in one one the other will just frustrate you. choose what style you prefer then stick with it and give yourself some time to get the hang of it. The vegas will require better technique of loading and popping to get your big airs which in turn make your unhooked riding even better.

just throw your kite back harder, so do what you doing now, ride in at speed edge hard bring the kite up a bit, and when u get to roughly 2 whip it right back to 10/11 to get the sudden acceleration going up then as you get up there bring it up to 12.

I am on 2010 Vegas, (9 & 12) and I don't have any trouble getting up there.
I suppose the difference between and sle and a C kite is you have to do a little more than pull in the bar to get off the water with a c kite. It is more about timing.

You might also want to look at the f-ones, supposedly a C kite but with the deep canopy. Fast turning, Fast across the water, loads of boost. just a thought!
