Well is it the first of the 08 kites? (released a mere few months ago) ,Dunno ,don't care .In a sea of bright and shinys I thought I would get a 12 m as a demo kite for the shop (good construction ,good price point supposedly stable ) .Also I figured that I might also like it .Three struts light weight ,good for waveriding perhaps ?(managed to find a review from some dude on other side of the earth that gave it good wraps)Good price point and designed by guys that seem to know their stuff .
So the poor bugga has been hanging on a hook for a while with largely crap winds for ages with the odd good blow coming through (that I really didn't wanto chance a 30 min blow on a new unfamiliar kite ) managed to have a cupla gos in marginal but as my own kites are all out on loan I now must find something else to ride .
Aha the kite on the hook finally gets a good look in !
Well my co instructor pinched it on the ideal day and came back with 'yeah pretty good but maybe could be a bit quicker in the tuns" .As it is my hobby to change kites I had the instant solution ,p*ss the rear traingular bridle off and go straight to the TE .(perhaps a little risky that the kite might be a little stally in the light stuff ) Nah .it frikken roks .Ive always had a hunch that low AR kites set up in a hybrid situation could be awesome .Correct !!.This pup has low down balls when you need it and plenty of depower and surprising upwind, pop and float.
I was amazed that with only 3 struts how well the canopy holds its shape .The designers know their stuff 4 sure .
Now I sell these kites and have flown lots of kites out there .they are all good .I like the price point ,simplicity ,light weight and waveride of this kite
Now talkinbg waverideing i am waiting for 2 things for my ultimete judgement ,light onshore and big waves .I have a hunch it will do well .Today managed flat water in bugger all to ballistic 30 kt gusts ,It passed the test and nuking 30 kt crossshore on the ocean with some small shories happing .I see the potential .
BTW very stable and forgiving .Managed to stuff a few manouveries and i managed to keep it all together and flying without too many dramsa and getting ripped out of the water .
if ur a noob with some focus on good kite flying this kite shouyld be easily conquored if your experienced to avance d you will be pleasantly surprised (If you get a chance to fly it I would be interested in what you reckon.
Bar is good ,not too complicated but it would be nice if it cam with a clip on leash.
Pls excuse spelling and gramatical errors
G'day Lach
Glad to see you are liking the Light, its an awesome kite for a 3 strut design, David Pilkington (Ozone Designer and partner) sure knows his stuff for sure.
There is no problem to run a line direct to the kite, I don't bother on any of mine, I like them the way they are.
The kite should have come with a clip on leash? Its a typical strong ozone design, red push away large plastic release knob, and neoprene covered bungee styel leash?
Let me know if you did not get it?
You know the spelling Police will be after you now don't you!! ![]()

I thought I would update this a little .We are still flying directly to the TE (not going via the triangular rear bridle )I shortened the rear flying lines by 5 cm (to compensate for the extra length as there is no triangle ) and voila .Brilliant kite .Massive rnge via the trim and outside tabs kite has nown flown beautifully with fast turns ,great grunt and still excellent upwind for a low ar kite .Relaunch is generally excellent but was tricky yeaterday in no wind on the water 13 knot sideshore and stuchk in the current .
It's a really light kite with the 3 struts and as a result increadibly stable (almostas stable as the venom) and subsequently ideal for radical and many mistake wave riding .Can be saved in flight in most situations by an experienced rider .
Definitely worth a try 4 sure
Hi Lach ,what size pigtails are u using with triangle removed Waiting for 9m light, have edges just find them a little too heavy for an "at kite" drift in lite conditions when waveriding have to keep actively flying kite.
thanks Richard
Mr Float
Did you notice any change in the bar pressure when you made this change. One of the guys I kite with who has tried my 13m edge reackons he would try something like that to increase the bar pressure. Nice to hear a good review on the "light" I have decided to go 9m light for my high wind kite.
Have an almost new 10m 07 rhino for sale.
Yep its a fly fly fly kite in the really light stuff no drift and no fly but is very responsive to input ,I'm used to venoms and found this a little annoying with the light at first but it no longer bothers ,just be agressive ,the upside is that the kite responds with good power nd depower and it doen's seem as light anymore .We just undo the triangle and go straight to the TE line .We tie knot in the rear lines on the sleeving so that it is right at the end of the sleeving(shortening the lines by about 5 cm)

Not really ,perhaps a little lighter .I don't reckon you'll be dissapointed with your decision

I had my first session on a 7m Light today, bought it for a storm kite, and by some bizarre coincidence and in defiance of Murphy we got 20-30 knots the day after I collected it!![]()
In brief, stoked. A strong, simple, top build quality kite, low aspect, well behaved, low bar pressure, no need to modify the 7 for turning speed, no pulleys, high depower.
I don't think I've seen wind that I'd be afraid to launch the 7m in.
Hi to the kurnell ozone edge flying crew!
Heya Tobes,
Hi back from KKK. Nice to finally put a face to the name. Gotta say, still lovin the Ozones.
Give me a PM next time you're in town and we'll organise some wind.
Cheers,
IAN
Hi Lach
Now, responding honestly to this question may have political implications for you. I hope not, but you can always email me directly ![]()
What is your experience & opinion of Light vs Venom for wave riding??????
Cheers
Graham
Have only just noticed this reply .
i would have thought that was pretty clear in what I am talking about .
The venom 2 is a fine waveriding kite (jarman 2 times champ) but I'm no jarman .What I have found is that in small waves in particualr (wind swell ) I can get the ozone around much faster to cut around on the wave and redirecting the kite
Now having said that there is a simple addition that i have made to the venom that brings its waveriding on par with the SLE's I've been riding .
I have tried an Ozone Instinct 11 but has anyone who has flown one also flown an Eclipse Nano.
I am trying to get a comparison of how they fly, the nano looks less complicated with lines but does less complicated mean less performance?
Don't know?
Orange and black and said instinct and 11m.
seems a lot of lines going to centre of kite and extra lines at bar.
I liked it but it seemed complicated.
I supose so are the lines on kites with bridles, but I can understand them.
