My Comments:
i'm moving to Auckland next year and I've heard their summer wind is usually below 20 knots. As a result, I'm looking to add a kite to my quiver of 1.
I currently have a 9m Ozone edge, which I use in 18 knots and up. Below that, it is underpowered. I'm thinking about a 12m+ Catalyst, either 2012 or 2013. What is the difference between these years.
Can you reccomend a suitable kite size for me? Is 12m big enough?
thanks,
Marty
Well welcome to auckland I am based there !
The wind will for sure reduce a lot in the next months, and with your 9 it will be too light.
I have personal y a 12 m and weight around 85 kg. but if I had to choose it again I will go under as I think it is too big.
For your weight , I will go for an 11 . I think it will be perfect for auckland summer wind.
Just my take
2013 was a big improvement on the 2012. More lively and better bottom end.. Go the 2013 or 2014 model
Hi Pulse, The 2013 was a big change from the 2012 - gruntier, more C-ish, and more stable. I'd go the 2013, and yes, in terms of power the 12m will sit nicely above your Edge 9m but they are very different kites. I'm what I'd call an intermediate/advanced free rider - and for this (boosting, unhooking, dabbling in waves when I get to the coast) the 2013 Cat is heaps of fun.
Enjoy!
Wow, thanks for the quick replies. I'll look for a 12m 2013 on I guess. i dont think they have an 11m
