Rider: Weight,Level (intermediate)
Style: Wake, Freestyle
Wind range: ~18-25 knots (maybe 30)
Weight: ~85kg

My Comments:

Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice on a second kite.

I currently have an Ozone Catalyst 12m (2013), awesome kite, sweet boost and lots of fun...

What I'm looking for:

Something that is going to let me push a little harder as far as pop, looping and general wakestyle / freestyle goes, maybe some unhooked etc... And give me a second kite for greater wind range of course.

Probable a 9-10m kite, 2012 to save money.

So, what do people think I should get? And, what size should I be aiming for? Want to be able to take it out most of the time in Sydney, don't mind a little crossover with the 12m, don't want to be underpowered for pop / boost etc... in Sydney.

Ozone C4 (2012) is on the list because it looks like a sweet kite and has some pretty good reviews for wakestyle / freestyle / unhooked... I already have bar and lines too.

North Vegas (2012) because I see people riding them doing tricks etc... Didn't find too much in terms or reviews which I thought weird, maybe didn't look hard enough?

Any others to consider?

Pretty much sold on the C4, just want a little advice first to see if my thinking is right, and if I maybe should go the Vegas? And which size to lean towards.

Cheers.

Cant go wrong with the ozone C4.

Im 95 kgs and my 2011 c4 is good for 20 to 30 ish ( Fun factor ).

If you already have the ozone bar why waste money on another bar/brand.

Either of those will do just fine. Both great kites for what you are aiming for.

But one has a north feel, one has the ozone feel.

Me thinks as ben said above, you fly the new cat (which has a bit of C4 in it), got a bar, stay with the C4.

2012 is also a good option also to blend you into that style...the 2013 is more highly tuned for that style, loops more intense etc...

But I owned the 2012 vegas, bloody good kite. Either one but I'd stick to the C4...for now.

Hi Neddero,

I'm an Ozone team rider and have lots of hours on both the 2013 Catalysts and the 2012 C4s. I'd say go a 2012 10m C4. They have less bottom and more top end per metre than the new Cats so it would feel more like a 3m gap which is a sweet balance of overlap and max range for your quiver.

Flying the C4 on the freeride bridle setting (knots closest to the leading edge at the centre of kite)will give it a pretty similar feel to the Cat with great depower and better gust handling. On the freestyle setting (knots furthest from leading edge) it will have more of a C feel and be more stable and solid for unhooking.

It will be a sweet 2 kite quiver for your size in Sydney.

Enjoy,

dojo

Thanks for the replies.

I'm gonna go with a 10m C4. Sweeeet!!

Cheers for nailing down the size Dojo, I was thinking the 10m as I want to be able to take it out instead of the Cat sometimes, but didn't want too much crossover...

Should be a cool mix, the Cat is awesome. Boosts so well and is so tame in the gusts. Was trying some loops on it the other day and was not having much luck. I'm sure some of it (maybe a lot of it...) is my technique, but it seemed to kind of spin on an axis and not loop through the window. I think I was slightly underpowered that day too, so would not have helped.

Anyway, I'm loving life at the moment, these two are to replace an Areo II 12m and an '04 Rhino 16m... What a ****ing difference! I took a break from kiting for a few years through Uni when I was poor, finished last year and around Christmas this year just decided I needed to get back into it...

Been out for 6 sessions this year and getting right back into it, I'd never tried a loop, but the Cat gives me a lot of confidence! Second session had back rolls going each way, and some big boosts. Tried a few down loops, didn't eat ****... Then next session tried a normal kite loop on the way up and ate it pretty hard, my arse was recovering for a few hours from the violation... :S

Going to work on the loops with the C4!

Anyway, enough of my life story... Looking forward to the C4!! Thanks for the replies, made the decision pretty easy for me.
