If anyone waits for the new Ozones to arrive as impatienly as I do then this review is for you. A short glimps of what we are waiting for.
I will leave the bar piccies asside as it has been mentioned in forum already. Pics of kites are on Kitepower website and kiteforum.com

Light
Way better turning, lighter overall due to thinner leading edge and struts, one pump, faster turning. 14 m turns as fast or faster than 12m light 07.
Especially the turning on these kites is amazing this year, ! It is beautiful compared to the 07's, 2 settings on 5th line.

Sport
Better depower, softer feeling during the flight, lighter due to thinner leading edge and struts, faster in steering!15m is as fast or faster than the 13m 07,different wingtip wich makes it less stally while turning (same on Lights),more power through turn and flies with less drag! A litlte bit more hangtime and a little more vertical lift. We reckon it will be better in waves cause it is a bit more stable in the corner with less stalling but i do believe the Lights this year will be the wavekite to go for! 2 settings on 5th line

Edge
Fast, light and speed are keywords here!Take it all from last year and than add 20 to 40 % Improvement!Super clean flying characteristics and the thinnest struts you have seen and off course one pump! Still the same lift and hangtime.Very light bar pressure and with the new bar set up without the plastic on the depower rope you will have better feeling on all the kites and more fun riding!

Don't they hahahaha don't they :)) And this year it looks like dev team has put an effort to improve it and finally change the bar with safety. Sweet.
I am not quite sure if there is a dealer in QLD but you can order them with Kitepower info@kitepower.com and I am more than sure Steve will post it.

Neill if I would live in QLD I would give you mine (when they arrive) to try out and see how great this kite is. I reckon any decent kite fellow would do the same so look at the skyline if you see any new kites there :) in any way Steve might know who retails them in QLD :)

Anyway check out David's (designer) notes. God I drool when I read this :))

Thats the dealer listing so far, no doubt it will grow, as news of how good these kites are spreads (via real users).

I will have 4 demo kites this week, probably will arrive Mon/Tues, the remainder of the first shipment is due around the end of the month or a little sooner.

Darren Marshall will definitely have kites to demo at Kitestock.

Ignore stupid and untrue rumours being circulated by certain importers of other brands.

Ozone has enormous worldwide sales volumes in foil kites and snowkiting, they make inflatables for some of the other brands, they are a major player in the kite industry and are here to stay. Ozone and Kitepower are 110% committed to customer support and service, same high quality as the products themselves.

I've never enjoyed any kite as much as my 07 Edges. If the 08's are any better at all, it'll be heaven on strings. Can't wait to see em'.

Thanks guys, i'd be really interested in an 11m as a one-kite quiver, what's the wind range like on the edge II?

I've flown my 11m sonic in gusts over 30 knots before, is the edge II able to do this sort of insanity?

Also steve, what's the price on an 11m with and without lines? I can't find it on your site!

30 knt on 11 **** me Neill...that must have been an adventure 4 u :)
Let me put it this way. If I am on 11 everybody else is on 14 - and I am way upwind to them. True I weight 75 kg so I'm kind of a mid weight rider but this kite has a lot of decent power. As for the high end - 07 Edge is a remarkable gust absorber and with a decent depower it makes it quite easy to control in 'Insane" wind but to be honest I have never tried to hold my 11 in 30 knt and something tells me that I shouldn't hehehehe (unless I tie myself to a fence post). Get a smaller one and you will immediately see the difference in metres between you and the water - NOW THAT'S INSANE :))))

Yeah the sonic was fine man, movable bridles are awesome. plus i have a super long centre line setup on mine so i can just keep depowering the kite until it hindenburgs basically. I still felt reasonably comfortable in those winds but it was hard to jump over 5-6 metres because the kite kept pulling me off my edge. in these winds a smaller, more powered up kite is definately better, but i was in the cook islands and the wind was cranking......

mars cant even spell right or open a coffee shop so how he could help i dont.and i dont think neill could stand up in 30 knots . all 55kg of him .you kite shop traders

wtf?

Hi Guys,

Me too! I was drooling over David's pre-release design notes after having been riding the Instinct Sport and Light for a week. I had to laugh with nervous excitement about the notes he made in reference to the Edge. I so want to ride this kite

We are going to be bringing a large number of the new 2008 Ozone Instinct II's to Kitestock for demoing.

We'll have Edge II, Sport II and Light II for demo in most sizes for your drooling and riding pleasure.

Ozone is also going to be giving away a 2008 9m Instinct Sport II, to one lucky punter. All you have to do is demo the new 2008 Instinct kites over the weekend to be in the draw for the kite.

If the 2007 Sport is anything to go by, then this is going to be an awesome kite.

We will be bringing Ozone to WA in both Land and Water kites and are taking advance orders for the first shipment of 08 Instincts from now.

We will also have a new Ozone Access 2 XC (Cross Country) foil for demo along with MBS Mountain boards.

Good winds and can't wait to show off the new gear at Kitestock. See ya there!

Good winds,

Here are some pics I took this morning, awesome looking kites. Ozones attention to detail is outstanding, definitely one of the very best quality kites on the market.
I did get to ride the Edge for 15 mins in really crap conditions and all it has done is drive me crazy to fly it in better wind.

I won't say anything now, other than to say the Edge turns tighter, turns better froma low wind speed, like at the edge of the window, has more lift and upwind, and lies even faster than last years kite which was no slouch!

Amazingly thin leading edge and struts.

What an amazing looking fun machine. Can't wait to try in Kitestock.

Can anyone comment on relaunch?
Also what is that line for that goes from tip to tip?
The centre bridal is that off the fifth or is that something different?

07 Sport has a great relaunch, pull in a rear line and she's up, don't know about 08 yet, but should be just as good. The lines running across the kite are anti-invert lines. The center bridle runs off the fifth line, which if you look at the bar and lines, actually pulls in directly while the center lines pull in at half the rate. Auto 5th adjusting makes for a huge range. It's all been thought out by guys who send people off cliffs with kites, that's what I like, they MUST and do work. The o7's are awesome, can't wait for my 08's to arrive No pulleys on the kite or bar are a big bonus

Hi Relie,

I have some 07 demo's at the moment which we have been test flying to get used to the kites. We have been demoing them at Pinnaroo Point with the locals to gauge the general response of the kiting population and to get a feel for them ourselves. We have had beginners, intermediates and advanced from all different disciplines ride them and give us honest feedback. The resounding feedback has been enourmously positive with many saying they wish they hadn't bought their current kites.

The kites are super smooth with amazing depower. Good speed through the air and nice fast turning. The power is phenomenal when looping, as the Pinnagroms will attest. Good jumping and nice and floaty. Bar pressure is really light and the steering very direct and effortless.

I really like these kites and we haven't even got our 08's yet, which, by all reports are a decent improvement on the 07's. All of this sounds like blatent pimping from someone with a finacial interest in selling them, so I suggest you don't believe me and I encourage you to come for a demo ride and judge for yourself. You are welcome to demo our current 07's until the new 08's arrive.

We've placed an order for 11 demo kites for Kitestock and Matt Taggart of Ozone has personally guaranteed they will be here well in time for Kitestock. Ozone is giving away a brand new 2008, 9m Instinct Sport II to one lucky punter at Kitestock. All you have to do to win it is demo an Ozone kite over the weekend from us to get your name in the draw, dead easy! Has entering a competition ever been this much fun?

To Bellz, Have a close look at the bar pics Steve posted earlier, I think you'll find the answer to the question you posted right there. There is extended EVA foam up the inside of the new composite bar ends - problem sorted! F16 til your hearts content.

As a matter of fact, our demo Truck will be ready by Kitestock. After Kitestock, you wont even have to come to Pinnaroo to demo the kites. We will be traveling around demoing Airush and Ozone kites and boards at your local beaches, so look out for us in the big white truck!

Good winds,

@bellz
The bar pics clearly show that all edges are smooth and well rounded.
The previous bar did not have jagged edges. Sorry just saw Darrens reply. I know what you mean about the old bar now, the inside end was hard and not covered with foam and could mash fingers in a bar pass slip holding with one hand episode (common). Its fixed. Ozone listen to kiters, and people like Darren will be part of the feedback and development of the kites.

@PR
Relaunch is improved on all models this year due to the way the tips of the kite re cut. Relaunch was never hard on the previous model Light and Sport, although some people took a while to learn the technique for the Edge.
This year is mostly just pull one rear line, or pull one rear line and then quickly pull the other.
We were able to relauch the Edge with the pull one rear and then pull the other technique yesterday and the sport went up just by pulling back on one side of the bar.
Didn't try the Light, but it relaunched supaer easy last year anyway, with the pull one rear line method.

The 4 kites we received yesterday are some of the very first to leave the factory, Darren and other dealers will get their kites in approx 7-10 days time. Darren will possibly get his a little earlier than my stock, due to his requirement to have them in time for the Kitestock event. Ozone and AKS have donated a 2008 Instinct Sport 9M for some lucky kiter to win, simply for being a registered rider at Kitestock.
