The rise would be more user friendly for a beginner. It would also be good to get the 2008 Rise bridle mod (available from dealers) to whack on the 07 rise, apparently it makes em fly heaps better. the 08 rise is supposed to be an excellent kite from all reports.

mitch if you can afford the HiFi get that but otherwise get the Rise. Neill are you thinking about getting an 08 Rise?

12m 06 Vegas is an excellent kite. I owned one for a season. Although it doesn't have the depower of some of the newer bow style kites around it still has a great range and I found it to be very user friendly when I was in my second season of kiting. Much more friendly than what I initially learned on.

Right up there as far as the kites I have tried. Probably in the top 3. Stand out kite.

What do you want to do once up and riding? Jump big, wave ride, wakestyle? Just cruise.

Vegas 06 is a c kite with very good depower for its year, the 08 has even more depower

5th line - more safe than a bridle kite. Easier to self land but extra line setup takes a few seconds longer than 4 line.

A 5th line can bow tie the kite and in extreme cases cut the kite in half.

No pulleys - less hassles with line wear than bridles kites.

might take a little longer to learn on than the rise due to less depower but ultimately kitesurfing has a fast learning curve once board starts are down pat.

Has a large wind range once you’re able to hold an edge. I know of two kitesurfers that only have a one kite quiver of the 12 meter 06 Vegas and ride from 15 knots unto 30knots with them. (You would be restricted to a max of 20 knots with it though as a beginner)

Rise.... I don’t know much about so cant give comment - but a few assumptions as follows....

Probably has better depower - easier initially to learn on with learning your board skills.

Looks to be a bridle kite - disadvantage with maintenance, more chance of line breakages if not checking the pulleys each session.

4 lines easier set up, can be an easier self launching from beach technique if used or can be same technique depending on how you where taught.. Bit trickier to self land than a 5th line kite (in my opinion anyhow)

possibly faster to water relaunch, that’s not to say its easier or more difficult, 5th lines take a little longer to water relaunch but are no more difficult. Something you need to think about if your going to mostly ride surf.

This is just my view and opinion of the Vegas kite as I haven’t ridden the rise, you will have fun with which ever you end up getting.
