I'm just about to purchase a 132 North Jamie, the choice was between this and the X-ride. I love both boards, cut the chop excellent, light on the feet and they like to pop. I'm no expert even remotely but it felt nice being that stable.
Tough Decision between Jamie and X-ride, X-ride felt a little more stable(may have been a 136??) but the Jamie was so playful, like my existing wee 128 and had a nice hard rail. Is it gonna cut the waves if I try it at Contacio...
Any comments on Jamie vs X-ride from a more experienced rider. How does the jamie go in the surf?
Hi matt,
I thought I'd leave this for someone else to answer, but alas, no one has stepped up.
All boards will work well in surf if you are just riding out, jumping off ramps, and riding on the face on the way in. It's if you start doing big top turns and transitioning from rail to rail that will make the difference. The X-Rides soft rail will be nicer in the foam and being on the face of the wave.
The Jaimie will also work well but you will need to be more on your game, no slip ups or the rail will catch and you'll eat it.
Work out how much time you realistically expect to be carving waves as opposed to riding in and out in the chop or surf and how much time you think you'll be freestyling.
If the Freestyle side is greater than the surfing side, then go the Jaimie, if the waves shredding is going to out balance the freestyle, then go the X-Ride.
Both boards are excellent for freeriding with, as you say, the Jaimie being more "lively" or "playful". Personally I prefer the Jaimie for most of my riding, but I ride a surfboard when I hit waves as I don't like the compromise in the twin tips for surf. But thats just me and I have a wide selection to choose from so am in a special spoiled rider category. ![]()
Cheers mate and happy decision making ![]()

I will have to agree the the above comment- at the end of the day, it'll depend on what you want out of teh board. Tried both and found the jamie not suited for waves- too quick and tends to loose the rail on hard carves. I have n x-ride and it's brilliant in waves whilst behaving very well for freestyle and jumping-
As your riding improves you'll need 2 boards and that's just the way it is! If the freestyle is your stuff then explore a few more boards- Try the cardboard tempo, awesome board but NOT for waves at all...if you're riding in chop you want something soft to absorb the chop- seek advise from your local dealer...best thing to do!
I've recently upgraded to the 09 jamie pro, and love it. quite light and lively but also very controllable.
Great in the chop too.
Can really comment on the wave abilities as im more into freeride atm.
