I know North boards already have a very strong following, but I hadn't heard much re the X-Surf. I've now had this board for a full year. I originally bought it as a light wind board to replace my ageing '09 6'2" SST. I have another higher rocker 6'2" for the good conditions.
The X-Surf feels comfortable & predictable from the word go, but over the long term you really get to appreciate just how flexible it is. If the wind's pretty onshore & you need your 8m for manouverability to head down the line even though wind's a bit iffy, then this board is a standout. But any conditions that are a bit lacking & it shines. It's 6' x 19 1/2" with a 15" tail & pretty flat rocker but only 3.9kg with fins & both pads. Very light. It's a fair size but still pretty agile & I've had no issue of nosediving coming off the top. It copes surprisingly well in 5' waves, sure the turns are a bit drawn out at speed, but you still feel confident, & the fact that you can get away with the smallest kite is a real blessing.
Anyway my point is, it's far more than a light wind board. It's become my main board. I wouldn't choose it for strong or pretty good conditions, but I am on it for 80% of the time. And loving it!![]()
