Anyone using the mystic firestarter harness? Had a warrior but it likes eating my hips. I noticed the new firestarter has a cutout over the hips. Purchased a new naish pro but it puts pressure on my lower back.

hey pearl
i have just upgraded to a 08 firestarter after using the warrior for a season and a half. Did not have any real problems with the warrior, other than a bit of hip chaffing during summer when i was not wearing a wetty underneath (i guess thats what you mean by eating you hips).
I tried the warrior on in a shop just for kicks and immediatly felt the difference. It gives you a lot more mobility for sideways movement because of the cut, while still supporting through the back of the harness. The spreader down system is as effecitve as always, and i like the fixed handlepass leash releases on each side which are a lot easier to locate than the release on your suicide lease. I cant comment on the chaffing cause its not quite boardies only weather here in Adelaide yet, but i think the higher cut around the hips should minimise that problem.

Tried a firestarter on last year, I could immedieately feel point loading from that big plastic decal thing at the back and on the sides, good looking harness but did not fit me at all. Hopefully the newer one is a lot better.

Personally I would recommend the Flying Objects Flight Control, been using one for a year now and know a number of people that have switched over from mystic, the bar always stays in place and has soft neoprene edges so it never digs in, even when I don't where a rashie. Worth a look,

Thanks gibo. Have had a pro limit, mystic, and naish in the past. None have been quite right for me. Should of probably mentioned I ride waves 99% of the time. So need some range of movement when in the harness.Yeah the warrior was a great harness but chaffing my hips in boardies. The naish felt super comfey, light and soft in the shop, but doesn't offer me the same back support of the mystic when riding continually. I'll prob go the firestarter but try a pat love and flying objects. Don't want to rub it in, but it had to be 22/23 degrees water temp here today. Still I know how good the kiting can be down there. I'll be back down to some of those secret wave spots when it warms up.
