Rode the 9 and 12m Assault generation 2 today and wow :-)
Significant improvments over last years model...

I had a 9 Assault, 9 Waroo and 12m Assualt to swap between all day and i honestly could not tell the difference in the 9m Kites... apart from the bar layout, both kites behave very similarly...

- Assault has less bar pressure, but only marginally.
- Assualt is HEAPS more stable in the air, waroo's tend to get a little jerky at times, this was smoooooooth
- Turning speed is dead equal, however the waroo is half a second quicker to respond (due to the pulleys on assault bar i spose)
- Boosting is the same height on both, but hangtime is much longer on Assault.
- Waroo flys in and out of the window faster, Assault just sits in one spot and pulls...

- Unhooked is the same on both kites, but the Assault was more stable etc.
- I prefered the Waroo for kiteloops
- New assault bar is niiiice, LF have improved it since the demo havoc bars came out, new stainless cleats, and little features everywhere make it a joy to use.
- Big c-loop to hook back in and doesnt deform under pressure.
- Depower works really well now, smooth as especially with the new cleat...
- Good quality pulleys (Ronstan)
- The usual UNION inflation system works realy well...
- New bag design is nice although a little too small for kite sizes...

Id pick the:
07 Assualt for leaners as its more stable, turns a little more predictably, and is built a lot stronger..

07 Assualt for boosting because of the hangtime etc

06 Waroo for general cruising and unhooked riding because of less hastles with the bar and no pulleys etc.. (Havoc beats waroo unhooked)

There is a 9, 12 and 16 for demo as well as a 14 havoc and 7, 9, 12 migs at brighton most days its windy ;)

Yeap the Assault has a vast improvement to 06 model. Solid stable feel with big boost ability. Overall I was very impressed with both Assaults and Havoc. Tried the 12m Havoc a few months back (07 proto) and didnt like it at all. Today tested the production 14m and it has a lot more feel and control. Particularly like the stopper pin on the bars, feels solid and very well made. Anyone wanna try them PM me or call 0411-789 888. Will be up and down the coast next few weeks.

just had a solid 2 hour session on the 9m Assault 2 and omg what a boosting kite!!!!!!! it was about 20 knots-25 in the gusts... but i was doing the biggest boosts ive ever done off flat water! and it wasnt just up and down, it was up, hang.... hang....... hang some more.... then gently floating down! it was insane! Gonna test it tommorow in the same conditions and will try and get a movie of a decent boost to show you...

This kite has sooooo much more hangtime than a waroo!

OooOoo

I rode the 9m today and well, it’s a damn nice kite.

I’ve tried the Waroo 9, and in my opinion the Assault is by far superior.

Bar pressure is practically not there (I am used to grunty ‘C’ kites). Perfect size bar and grip.
AMAZING depower
Smooth, stable and very responsive turning speed.
Simple bridle layout and system.
Stopper Ball adjustment a HUGE advantage! Very easy to use.
Tidy depower strap-doesn’t get in the way.
9.5 out of 10 #61514;

I rode it before liz did and was once again really happy with it… Boosting was just confirmed but no video evidence was taken #61516;
I really put it through a workout with wakestyle stuff today…. It feels exactly like an 8-10m C kite, has awesome pop/power and doesn’t fly down sharply like other bows…

The biggest thing I was impressed with today was the depower function when you drop the bar…. If your leash is clipped to the right place, Dropping the bar will immediately put the kite on absolute depower, the doubled over chickenloop line will be pulled like a 5th line so the chickenloop will shoot up to the depower strap… the kite just drops with absolutely NO power like a 5th line, a much safer alternative to the waroo’s…

Had more practice kitelooping with it and after adjusting to the kite, it is equal or better than the waroo….

Did you end up riding the 16m kurt?

No.
So are you guys riding Assault quivers this year?
Be good to do a comparison with the crossbow 2
as I think it a similar design bow.
I tried The CB2 12 and well, they say if you can't say anything
nice, don't say it all. The owner was a very nice bloke though

By the sounds pf it the new Assault will be great in the waves too
as I think the pulley bar set up kites are good for this.

Should also get you guys on the new Waroo Standard as you're comparing your review to an old flogged out 8.5m model lol
You must have lost nearly .5m at the sail repairers recently!

The Waroo Pro is in a league of it's own and nothing comes close.
Similarly I think the Havoc is a unique kite as there is nothing else around in the same sort of design and flight characteristics. I think a true wakestyle only kiter would kill it on this kite.

Breakky time then to the beach!

I rode the 16m today in overhead waves and flat water at maroochy river mouth at the LF demo... it absolutley kicks the 16m Waroo's arse.... same with the 16 crossbow and 16 assault gen 1's ive also flown... Bar pressure is as light as a 14m waroo... turning is quick for a 16... depower is once again smooth... didnt bother jumping... but on a wave with a twintip it was in a league of its own! just carve around as much as you want and it just sits on the edge of the window waiting for you like an ARC kinda... easily does a quick 180 if you want to change directions etc it was AWESOME.... a great light wind wave kite...

Kurt:
Ill be riding the Assualt 2's whenever i can get my hands on one....

Im comparing the Assualts to:
- my ****ty 9m,
- Padi's 12 and 14 waroo...
- 16 waroo, and ill be comparing the 19 Assualt 2 to your 20m waroo.
- 9 12 and 16 Assault gen 1's
and a 16m Crossbow 1...

I have not flown a Pro because i havn't been given the chance! But i figure if i fly one i will want one... and the only thing i want to be wanting at the moment is a Mitsubishi Lancer!!!

Woot - took the 16m Assault out today. There was also a 16m Waroo, and a 20m Spectrum II. The 20m spectrum was the first to get going but Rhys was on a surfboard :P Not long after I got going on a recoil 133. Impressive low grunt the kite has.

i have to say that the 2007 assault is SIKKK!!!!.
i tried out the 12m on the weekend and this is what i think:
POSITIVES:
- Sooo stable in the window
-really grunty,i am 60kgs and i was going on the 12m in barley 9knots of wind
-Looks insane
-great depower
-fairly fast
-relaunch is easy
NEGATIVES
-this kite is really heavy on the bar however this is due to the pulleys and if flown without pulleys the bar pressure is light as (i hope).
-LACK OF DECENT WIND TO TEST IT OUT BETTER

no need for free chuppachippys mate, all down to LF's marketing strategy making the range readily available for testing, of course u need a great rep too lol. I am getting the Gaastra Spyder for testing from today. If anyone interested in testing this, I'll be at Brighton from 12 on, provided theres wind lol!
