G'day,

Does anyone done a comparison between an Airush Sector 60 V2 to a North Race 2010 LTD?

I had my North Race board dissappear from under my house and I may be changing boards (if my local guy will change the quote to my insurance company). But before I start the paperwork I wanted to find out about the Sector 60 V2.

I like the North but always wondered if the Sector 60 was better for my style of kiting?? Stuff like light wind bottom end, if either board suits bigger persons, or maybe the board is a real sh!t in stronger wind or chop?????

Anyway, your opinions will be gratefully received! Thanks in advance for your time!

Cheers,

Robbie

Hi Robbie,

I can give you an idea between the North Race LTD 2010 and the V1 Sector 60. The two are quite different with Sector being more freeride oriented as opposed to the Race being more Course oriented.

Best bottom end is from the North Race but there is a fair amount of trade off betwen performance and ease of use. The Sector is more fun to ride and easier on the body but the Race definitely has upwind advantage and pure bottom end.

I guess you need to define what you really want the board to do to weigh up the pro's and con's and decide what will suit you best.

For me, I loved the performance of the 2010 Race LTD but ended up buying myself a Sector 60 for recreational riding fun. Oh, I weigh about 90 kg

Hope this helps,

DM

G'day Darren,

thanks for the speedy reply.

I liked my North Race 2010 LTD but it didn't have the fun factor when it came to turns, but it did have great upwind speed and bottom end to get my heavy weight out when others can't. I was always afraid of breaking it to when I jumped it and it was a little too 'directional' or stiff when in small waves but again, it rocked upwind and always made 12 knots feel like 20 knots.

I'm not into racing but as usual, out on the water sometimes your mates have a go and suddenly your in a dragrace upwind, so upwind speed isn't all I'm after, but fun gybing, jumping with a spin here or there and not smashing your legs downwind when your coming home from a cruise up the coast (which I love doing).

Unfortunately I don't have a chance to try one and logically thinking the Sector looks like it will fit my needs!

Another quick question, can you get bigger fins for the Sector 60 V2 that could improve the bottom end, maybe make it closer to the North Race or would that just make the board to un-manourverable or suck the fun out of it?

Thanks and cheers for now,

Robbie

Hey Robbie,

It's mostly the fins (and tail shape) that make the board "stiff". The more tucked in the tail (like the Sectors), the more loose and freeridey (is that a word?) the board feels.

From memory, the V2 was a little wider in the tail and had the fins spaced wider. It should still retain that lovely carvey feel and have good upwind ability.

I don't think you can change the fins over. The leverage on the boxes themselves is increased by longer fins and you would likely end up with drama's.

Although we seem to be doing less and less of Airush stuff these days, I still rate a good board (or kite) when I ride one. I rate the Sectors. Good fun for everyday riding and still good in the hands of a great rider if needing to race in all but the lighter winds.

G'day Darren,

thanks again, your advise is greatly appriciated and valued!

It sounds like I'm on the right track aiming for the Sector. I guess, if the designers wanted bigger fins they would have put bigger fins in or at least made it an option!! I threw my North race fins into an old directional Stonker 205 (remember those things) for a laugh and even though the fins aren't that big, the boxes started to show stress. The stonker wasn't as much fun as I remembered so I went back to the North.

It's the carvey and freeridey (cool word and decribes exactly what's intended) part I dig the most and if I really wanted to get into racing I could invest in one of the new 3 fin monsters I've seen pics of!!!

Cheers,

Robbie

I guess we will have to get out on the water this summer Darren and put this theory of yours to the test because from my experience the sector 60 V1 kills the 2010 North Race around the course AND it is easier/more fun to ride! I also know the Sector 60 V2 beats the Sector 60 V1 for bottom end and upwind.

So lets RACE!!!

... easier/more fun to ride sounds good to me, and if it has similar upwind ability, thats cool.

I've got one coming, looking forward to using it now!

cheers,

Robbie
