My Comments:
I have now a two kite quiver of Griffin Chimera's, 10.5m and 8m.
These two kites cover most wind conditions and rock.
I'm sure the seasoned pro could provide a greater detailed review on various features etc etc.
My review is on my experience and terminology or interetation of what gives a kite its flying characteristics I'm no designer so if my remarks incorrect please appreciate the intention.
But bang for buck these kites have provided me fantastic low end power the 8m will carry me through lulls with some looping and just sits rock solid at 10 or 2 oclock when cruising swell in 17knts and upwards. The kite speed through gybes is enough I suppose with time I'll maybe want faster but for now it is perfect speed.
The 10.5m is slower of course but with the line extensions and a steady 13knts I'm on the water and looking for swell.
These kites seem to be well made and certainly the 10.5m has taken a pounding as I went through the learning apprenticeship.
The bar is simple and the quick release a forward push.
Relaunch has never caused me any problems. Self launch and landing when I've had to has been fine.
I very rarely see other Griffins on the water so purchased with caution believing if others weren't using them they might be crap.
But for new kiter's looking for a kite that wont cost the earth and will give you heaps of fun these deserve consideration.
I'm not associated with griffin but hey if griffin want an ambasadour I'm ya man.
Yeah forgot to add that my Chimera's are 2011. Haven't seen the 2012's yet. Be good to hear from someone who had??
What do the Argo's give that the Chimera's don't or visa versa?
I have had both and to me the difference is subtle.
Both are excellent kites and some say one looks better than the other so the difference seems to be a personal choice.
I have ridden the 8 Chimera from 15kn to 40ish kn in full safety for my level of experience.
I suggest anyone would be happy with either including build quality.
Griffin web has just been updated with 2012 products information.
www.griffinkites.com.au
You could see there the new Chimera 2012 and all product information.
A new Griffin discussion forum has been added. Could be really interesting.
If Griffin feedback was good before, now could be still better!!! ![]()
