I am currently riding an Underground 135 Styx. This board came standard with 50mm fins as do all TT board seem to at the moment. The board is fantastic but seems to have lost a bit of the skatie feel of previous boards I have owned.

Why the trend to larger fins? I am looking at a set of smaller fins, 40 or 45mm but at about $100 for a set of four I was interested in some comments from other before I folk out the cash.

yeah. i've tried a few newer boards lately with bigger fins. you certainly can hold down some power and churn upwind like amofo. but i too like the slidy feel of my smaller fins. particularily slide transition to smack the lip on a wave face.

but thats just me. i'm a bit weird!

Bigger fins also seem to make it harder to land blind. At least for me

put them on the grinder, 10mm at a time and stop when they feel good, 35-40mm is usually where mine end up, or ride up the beach ,that tends to shrink fins pretty well
