Hey I'm looking into two kiteboards; a 2004 Slingshot SX and a 2005 Litewave. They are both twin tip wakestyle boards, and here are the specs:
2004 Slingshot SX: $173- 143cm
2005 Litewave Model 3: $155- 135cm
I am a beginner to the sport, and I weigh about 62Kg. I know very little about the two brands, so any information would be nice. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Would have to agree and get newer if you can.

62kg is light. When more confident you would proberly ride a board 128 x 40 or somthing similar.

Slingshot Sx Great board but very stiff. Great on dead flat water does not do chop very well. Not really sure about Lightwave. would guess peraty similar but someone who has one will give you a better idea.

I would go for a 132 It will be a little harder to ride in the beginning but will last a lot longer/ Wont have to buy new board. Anythig bigger will feel like you are riding a boat. :)

Newer boards have more flex they give you a more comfortable ride and seem to be a little more forgiving.

Hope this helps.

if you are only going to pick between those two the 135 litewave would be better.. but like mentioned if you can try find something from around 07ish

If you look around you can pick up newer boards for not alot more. I dont think you have to spend a fortune on your first board as you wont be able to tell the difference between one board to the next, but it dosent take long to progress to a stage where you will notice a difference, especially with a board that old. You will only use it for one season if your lucky.

on the other side.. if your just beginning the likelyhood of losing your board is a bit higher than if u were experienced so perhaps such a cheap option for a beginning is a good idea?

Thanks for the advice guys; I looked around more and found a 2006 jimmy lewis model 3 (133cm) for the same price, so I think I'll go with that. Any advice or info on the board would be great. Thanks

I reckon the worse you are the better the board you should get. It's so easy to pound upwind on a nice nobile. havent tried the top boards from the other brands but theyre probably just as good.

using equipment to mask ur lack of skill is exactly what's wrong with this sport.. how about we take time and learn sh!t properly, if you cant keep ur ground walk back up, motivates you more to do it properly.

the jimmy lewis would work fine for ya mate

Still got my 2004 SX 132 in the shed. Loved that board - very stiff. Might take it out for a run with my 2004 15m fuel just to remind me of the gool ole days. Hey, if anyone has a LE bladder for a Fuel 11m 2004 let me know!

Anyway, back on topic, I can't talk for the other boards but the SX would be OK for a bit - I think you should be able to get it a lot cheaper though.

I learned on a surfboard I put straps onto. cost me 4 plugs and some resin! That was fun.

Now riding my battered Lunacy 132 2009 with one fin! ha ha. F&^K, just read the sh!t above, must be putting off going to work.

See ya.
