i just bought a 7 and 9 of the 08 best waroo and couldnt be more in love with it!
but ill try to be constructive :)
JUMING: great lift and it will keep you up there for ages. i was actually able to jump higher and better than what i could on my 12metre crossbow 3 which was a surprise
UpWIND: it actually felt really different. I was riding not thinking i was going upwind because i wasn't edgeing hard did my tac back in and to my suprise i had gained like 100 metres.
UNHOOKING: unhooking was BRILLIANT. i have never ever been able to jump as big unhooked as what i could with this kite. the kite doesnt back stall either whcih is a huge advantage from flying the crossbow 2! also pulled of my first railey to blind with a surface pass boo ya! :)
SAFETY: The safety systems on the bar where good. you have 2 options to put your leash. one is next to your chicken loop which is sort of suicide but this is where i mainly had is for the session. When i dropped my kite from unhooked the bar would move up about 2 metres and there was very little to no power in the kite and it usually sat on its side waiting for me to hook back in and would relaunch with ease. The other hook is on a running line on the left or right steering line. I use this one when im landing or launching if things go wrong your whole bar goes nearly to the kite and the kite has absolutly no pull as it fully flagged out. But i wouldnt reccomend this one if your out because i doubt you would be able to get the kite back up in the sky with out having a good couple of tangles in your line. So if you do this one out in the water its self rescue time ![]()
GENERAL FLYING: The kite is fast, responsive and the bar pressure gave me a real feel for where the kite was. it has a brilliant wind range as well finding my 9 was flyable from about 15 to 25 knots... but was more fun at 18-22
i guess my only crisitsm in the fact its not 1 pump. Its tru having kites where you have to inflate strust are easier to repair but i would personally have less time setting up the kite and more time riding ![]()
Hi all
Hav,nt seen or heard much else about the 08 Waroos on seabreeze to date.
Any other crew using them?
Any other comments, feedback?
I flew the HP but its not for me.
Disclaimer - Best rep!
Overall - a few good improvements on an already great kite. I'm really liking the 13, 11 and 9 a lot for riding and teaching with.
You need to try one for yourself I guess. Play around with the tuning settings - they make quite a difference to the feel, turning and power etc.
If you are in Brisbane you can grab one off me for a spin - any size.
There are also about 25 or so new 08's flying around Brissy now, so check in with some feedback from the owners.
Yeh I have an 11 an a 9, love them, gr8n the surf, just wish I had a 7 for these crazy conditions we are having right now![]()
The 08 Waroo rocks! There are reviews on www.bestkiteboarding.com
Isn't the Best R&D Centre based in Geraldton? so there should be tonnes of reviews coming out of WA. yeah I want a 7m too..
Have any of you guy,s had 07 Waroos?
What,s different/better on the 08?
Is it worth trading my 07 for 08?
Main advantage is the even easier relaunch and the tuning settings.
The 13 turns really sweet and is noticably better tan the 07 13 in this dept.
No battens on the LE anymore either.
The construction of the 08 waroo is similar but better than the 07. 2 main things they changed was the reinforced front bridle attachment points and the reinforced backing on the LE seam.
,
LE seam technology
Also the new VP2 depower system makes the needed throw on the bar almost half to what it was in 07.
VP2 depower system
I have a Slingshot 13 mtr REV demo at the moment to try and I will be comparing to the performance of the Waroo.
Im keen to see what comes from it.
Thanks
Joe
Have only flown the 11M, and it is an awesome kite.
Smoother than 07, no LE battens, more tuning options, but I only fly it in the fast Aa setting, on a 45cm 07 bar with 25M lines.
More lift and hangtime than 07 I reckon, and much easier relaunch.
Hate the bag, its terrible, one of the worst out there, the zips come apart, then its hard to use the bag at all because it goes all the way down one side.
Managed to pull off a backloop kiteloop transition the other night, so easy on this kite to learn new stuff.

Have had about 10 sessions on my new 9m 2008 Waroo so far, and love it. Thought I would put my thoughts up as there hasn’t been heaps written about the 08 Waroos on here, and I think it’s quite a different kite to last years.
Set out to demo a few kites this season in my search for a new 9m, found a few that I loved: Instinct Edge, REV, and ’08 Thrusters.
Have only ridden the kite with the rear bridle set on A-B setting, rear lines on either 2nd or 3rd last knots.
Love how it turns, quicker than the ’07 Waroo, with more power through the turn. Turns a bit slower than the 8m Thruster, though have not tried it on the faster A-A setting yet.
Was surprised at the nice direct feel at the bar, given the 3 pulleys on the front bridle.
Feels nice and stable, doesn’t flutter when depowered like last years. Leading edge batterns are gone, which is great as I snapped some last year resulting in them poking up through their pockets.
Have had some brilliant jumps on the 08 Waroo, much better than the '07. When jumping it really rips you off the water hard, which I found similar to the REV. Not quite as floaty as the Thruster or Instinct Edge, but close.
The leading edge and struts are smaller in diameter than last years, which makes a noticeable difference when going upwind.
No one-pump, not too fussed as it keeps the cost down, and I hate Best’s EZ pump system. If you lose pressure in a strut then the leading edge will deflate as well.
Bag, take it or leave it. Looks like they have made the 9m bags bigger now, but kept the smaller hood.
To finish a massive improvement from last years model and I haven’t even explored all the tuning options. Take one out for a demo.
Cheers, Carl.
Good review, the 08 Waroo has definately had some thought put into it, so I think if you are looking for a new kite this year and you fit the criteria, the Waroo is what you need to try.
