Finally had the chance to open up my new toy. Kite came in a very cool printed box - no need to wrap for Christmas present! Inside is a simple but smooth bag, can fully fold out to the length of the struts, bring back memories when I used to pack a kite up with struts inflated! There is also an optional messenger bag for those who prefer a traditional bag.
As I unfold the kite, the material is like smooth as silk. Finishing and details are best ever seen on any other Best kites before. For a 17m, it is a pretty high aspect mean looking shape. Now is that like racing pattern imprintment I see? YES, it is a RACE kite!
ONE PUMP SYSTEM for all except the centre strut - how thin is that centre strut!!!!! Carrying it out to the beach was effortless, light weight, kite is quite flat so easy to carry considering it is a huge 17m.
Set lines up, nice and simple 4 lines bridle system. Conditions was marginal 8-12kts. Kite launched easy as. Trimmed in about 6 inches, pulled bar in fully, kite did not stall at all. Trimmed out, pulled bar in, stable as. Unhook, with full power, kite just sits up at top. Impressed.
Took the Liquid Force Lowrider out for first runs, and the kite pulled me straight on the board. Wind was very marginal at the time, 8-10kts. Worked the kite a few figure of eights, and the traction on board came on. Parked the kite at 11 and my gawd, I was going upwind! Turned around I did not even need to sign the kite more than once as current was against the tide. Rest of session was smooth runs carving here and there.
Overall, kite is smooth as and joy to ride. The 17m feels like a 15m. Fast turning, kite loops well and generate very good power and speed. I would say it is the fastest turning 17m kite I have ever tried. Definitely got to give it a try for all those seeking a light wind machine or those heavier guys looking to get going early.
