What size under an Ozone Zephyr 17m?
I am 93Kg intermediate and 62
Riding style: Freeriding/Surf
Weather: anything goes on the mediterranean shore near Montpellier, with 2 to 3m waves when it's SouthEast.
Love my Griffins 2009 12m, 9m and 7m but they need to be replaced.
I love large wind range and light barres but would appreciate better control without puley.
Mr GriffinKites told me heavier riders prefer the Chimera.
Will there be a gap between the Zephyr 17m and the Chimera 10,5m
(keeping only the Griffin 7m for he rare high wind days)?
Or should I get the 13m and 8m
(and get rid of all the old griffins?)?
Pleeaaase, let me know.
Hi Seeya,
I'm on the mediterranean shore too, but in Spain, near Barcelona. I'm ~70 kg.
I'm riding the Chimera 10.5 from 10-11 knots with a race board and 30 m lines, but maybe couldn't be compared to the Zephir 17m in low wind. With shorter lines I've rided comfortably in more than 25 knots.
In low wind I'm riding an Argo 13.5. I've rided in 7-10 knots with long lines (see the video at www.monkeykites.com/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi ). Even with 40 m lines is fast enough to ride comfortably in low wind. With shorter lines I've rided too comfortably in more than 20 knots.
If you want to keep the Zephir only for low wind, the Chimera 10.5 would be perfect for you (no gap between them) keeping the Griffin 7 for extraordinary days.
Sure you'll use the 10.5 more than 75% of time.
But if you can afford the complete change, try the Chimera 8 and decide by your own. Sure you'll love it.
I'm thinking about going to Sete one weekend, how is the wind now these days?
All my best,
Alex
Hi mate i'm 95 kg and do prob 80% of my riding on a 10.5 chimera, and the rest on a 13.5 argo and a 8m chimera, the 8 chimera has a huge windrange as does the 10.5,i can ride powered from around 14 knots on the 10.5 and hold it to 35 the 8 from 16-40 so you would be sweet with this combo and your zeph, also i would go for both as the 8 is a big step up on the old griff 7.![]()
I'm big (100 kg) love the argo 13 for the light stuff with my Decay scimitar .Not missin out in the light stuff at all .This lard arse is often the only guy out in the pus .go 30 m lines .There is a bridle config that I use that I can't give away .*(sorry)
I just had a go of the new Argo the other night. I was on a surf board on the 10.5, but I was suprised how much better it is than last years. Really nice unhooked and turns amazingly.
Ditch the Zephyr and just get a 12 Argo
I thought it was a 10.5.. But at the time I thought it was a Chimera until later I was told otherwise, but it was a really nice kite to use.
Also it had red on it too, so it was fast. That I can be sure about.
