Posted by Eppo in "The 4 kite review" thread... thanks for kicking off some 2014 season review discussion.
My school maths teacher couldn't spell or use punctuation (as Eppo can), but he was a sticker for order (I became an accountant). Hence why this post has been split into its 4 component parts:
"Just an awesome winter day, starting at 13 to 15 steadily increasing to 17 to 19 and at times a little above. Not a huge swell but enough to see what drift capabilities are there. Rode a total of 5 kites today, but 4 of them were newies. Only be brief as none of them are my focus this year, but it may serve to give a little info to those who are. I will do it in order of riding them. All of them were on my cruiser Pro.
BWS 8m
Real simple bar system with plastic sheathing, above clam cleat aka ozone so immediately I liked it.
Bloody fast, with excellent feedback all the way through the power delivery. Drift unreal, can't see how much better you could get it, man these wave kites have got good! Steers when depowered. Power delivery linear and smooth but little apparent wind build up, that being said who wants that in the waves.Yet it still will fly nicely through the window, you just gotta redirect it a little and go again. Jumping, forget it. This kite has one purpose...waves.
But they have built a fly and follow wave kite, an immense improvement on the older BWS (i may offend some but this is my review so get fcked....thankgod it is different) in terms of how it flies and quality of build all round. It just looks right hey. For serious wave riders you need to add this to your demo list now. Really impressed hey. Did I say it turned bloody fast...on/off type power.
Any spelling errors I just can't be bothered fixing..."
Not sure where I mention it turning like a 6?
Its a really good option NoBs you should try one then comment I would suggest.
Dude I was a huge NON fan of BWS kites, for various reasons and observations that I never have brought up, because I don't see the point, the market finds out in the end.
But this kite is very well built, is a fast fly and follow wave kite that is worth checking out, if you are a pure out and out wave rider.
Hence I would never be on one, but I appreciate what it could mean to those that want to really wave ride and that's it.
Try and get informed man, been a while since I have since such ignorant comments on this forum....shame.
I aggree eppo, every one is entitled to their own personal view on any brand of kite , i find it disappointing to continually see certain kite brands bagged from people that have very limted experience and have not even ridden that kite.
Unless your a pro like Rueban or such its very hard for the rest of us mere mortals to give reviews on kites that we only demo for an hour or so,
Personal reviews are great and needed from all of the kiting forum , not good form to bag any brand ,bad reviews based on your experience on that kite is justified , as long as its based on your experience as well.
All the reviews from all levels of kiters on this forum are generally good be thm positive or negative , lets keep the bu----Sh--- out
eppo
back to the BWS ,and no need to respond to statements like bla bla bla and wah ,wah ,wah, intelligent kiter , not![]()
Yes they have improved since they first came out ,the build quality is as good as you can get and preformance will match any wave kite out there.
If you ride the waves put on your demo list , especially the pro, they have been developed by surfers and do deliver that the freedom and feel of not having a kite to ride the waves .
I had a short session, on the 12m 2014, I as well was impressed, reminded me a lot of the
RRD religion 2012 and on, great for wave specific, has a smooth but powerful motion witch keep tension on the lines in all positions=still responsive throughout the window.
Truster,
Was it on the pro , havnt ridden a 12 curious to see the turning speed of the 12 compared tp otehr kites of that size.
Stoked to see crew frothing on the new 2014 model BWS kite- new shape, colour scheme and 3 strut. these kites have been out for a month or so now and seem to be getting good feedback from everyone. hasnt been the best wind in perth last month or 2 but what there has been has given me a chance to test out these new kites and they seem to work great even in bad winds. alot faster than the previous noise kites and definately alot more high end, not as much bottom end but you can get just as much power out of them as they are alot quicker. cant wait to get some steady seabreezes on them this summer, definitely worth checking these out if your after a new kite for this season , quality on these kites is first class , awesome bar( my opinion best bar on the market) and very good price too, and tuff looking in black and red!
Yeh the bar screams ozone simplicity. I liked it to. For serious wave riders give this one a shake for sure along with the others coming out.
For freeriders, nah, it really is a specific wave kite more so than even the older models. It is what it is and does it very well.

cough. ![]()
the bws bar has the safety release the right way round
Just got back from an awesome trip to indo for the last couple swells that hit- got a good couple weeks to really test out these new babies!
been a shocking winter in perth so was good to get some warm water and decent waves! loving the new kites, faster than the previous model, 3 strut, new bar has just come out too- not in these pics but i have had a good run on it, super easy and smooth depower adjustment, has black plastic coated chicken rope so no more wearing out and replacing and time soon. still one pump and quality is A1. check em out and get your hands on one- im sure you will be stoked! Bring on summer!!!!!!
Ryland , great pics ,jealous
Yes agree the Pro rips ,smoothest power delivery and drift of any surf kite I've ridden in 10 years.
Yeah Jealous too. Hate you sponsored Pr$cks. LOL
Keen to sample against what I have been with, wondering what Dano has served up this time????
Noticed some depower in your second shot. Is that normal or you were indeed overpowered???

Big waves for Sumbawa !!! Picked it right this time Ry!!
Good picking too Tony.
A shot of Ry still hooked in ? Now thats something you dont see everyday.
Im guessing he just pulled in & took the drop - next move would be to unhook. My guess.
Also ...its a below the bar depower bar. That amount of trim rope adjustment is not a lot on the BWS Noise kites - Esp if the plan is to unhook once you r on.
They need to be worked from around a 5cm showing beyond the cleat (as a min. in normal windrange)
agreed with all the comments the new kites are awesome massive step forward from the previous models...
i ended up taking a mixture of the 2014 and the older model in the 8m and 6m and took the new 2014 10m on the indo trip with Ry using both kites on the same trip i could really feel the differences..
The down the line drift is incredible and I think any wave rider needs to take a go of these new kites. Before the indo trip I also took the 6m, 8m and 10m up north and gave them all a good run, and found i didn't really have a favourite size all worked really well in the conditions. They are very responsive and extremely smooth to fly.
Construction wise they are very tough i dropped them a few times on both trips and they came up sweet!!
Here is a few pics from both the trips, I'm stoked on the new gear and excited to see whats next from bws!!![]()
Clean waves - little wind.
North Sea: complex aggressive waves with a lot of wind (>25knots - 30 to 35knots is normal - see LEN10 video's)
So I wonder if BWS Pro works as the BWS classic was just too slow turning
@John4F
The BWS Pro was tested in a wide variety of conditions being the North Sea conditions one of them. Choppy conditions, waves coming from everywhere... for this kind a settting you need a quick turning kite. Since the Pro's came out I ride them in the North Sea and they are just perfect for our sea, very quick turning in all sizes, smooth bar feeling and incredibly stable. In comparison to the Noise Classic the Pro has evolved enormously, it's another ball game. The people that I've given the kite to test -who fly Cabrinha Drifter, North Neo, Ozone Reo & RRD Religion- are amazed by BWS Pro.. BWS will take over business from these brands that's for sure!!!
