Many brands have been caught up in the closure of a major bar, board, components and accessory manufacturing factory in China. Ozone have found an excellent alternative manufacturer, but this has caused the delays we have had to endure. Hang in there, there is nothing wrong with the current bar, there are literally thousands of them in use. Ozone have assured us that the new push away design chicken loop with be easily retro-fitted to the existing bar.
looking forward to the new chicken loop. It's not fun having to change over from suicide to safety as quick as you can when **** is about to hit the fan
I actually think it looks pretty good, also glad to see the red back which looks really good in the flesh. The only thing that bothers me a little is the patern of the colors looks like the number 4, also why does the kite size figure need to be so large.
too much white in my opinion. edges look heaps better.
white also stains a lot more easily than other colours.
Looking at a 2 kite C4 quiver for me at 75kg in Perth
9/11 or 9/12 combo? Probably going to look at 2012's
From what I've found the 9/11 combo is a bit too close, although the other guys were in the 84-90kg range
Got a 2011 8/11 quiver, covers me from 15-30 at 70Kg on a 130 board.
Would love if they added a 6m to the range to cover the high 20s to high 30s, can't imagine I'd get too much use out of a 5m.
Have a look at the new catalyst 2013, from reports Robbie has put a lot of effort into the smaller Cats, they are due for public release in about 3 weeks.
Another vote for a 8/11. Im 80Kg and ride a 134 tt and have had a 2011 8/11 quiver for the last 2 seasons. Could not be better spaced for me, great range for a 2 kite quiver.
In saying all this considering changing it up a bit for this season and trying a 7/10 C4 with a 13 or 15 edge. Need to demo a new 10 before i consider it further.
any news about the new chicken loop? Hoping the safety is run internally along the pu tubing as my fingers have been getting a painful rash from the safety line rubbing up against them
Would a 10m c4 see me through from 17-25 knots on the flat water at 85kg's, was wanting to buy a c kite to progress into unhooked trick's, looping ect, but can only afford one kite. Heard good things about this kite
I'm 78ish kg and have 9/12 2012. These are not grunty kites. Spent a lot of time struggling on the 9m last summer.
Will see how much the 12m gets used this year..
Call me a bull**** artist, or whatever you will for the following, One light wind day at our local spot we had an fone demo day, i had an 11m C4 up was holding ground well, and there was a sponsored rider there with a 14m bandit that couldnt even get upwind, to hold ground in the first place.
Saying as an example of knowing how to use your kite can go a long way, especially with a C4 once you get it dialled you wont go back.
You dont need a super grunt machine to be efficient in light wind.![]()
I weigh 82kg, i was riding a slingshot mayhem 132, wind strength not sure exactly, maybe 10-12knts, i was working the kite a bit, tide wasnt favourable either, it ended up dropping lower couldnt even fly the kite.
My point was, the kites low end/grunt is irrelevant if you know how to get the most out of your kite and board.
I also think the weight between the two kites themselves make a huge difference, a bandit may have plenty of grunt, but its also alot heavier than a C4.
Hmm, based on Fawkner beacon readings, generally accurate for the spots I frequent, my bottom end for grovelling/holding ground on my 2012 12m C4 on a 50fifty (fair bit of rocker) is 14/15knots average and on the 9m about 17/18knots. Fun kicks in at 3knots (of average windspeed) above those numbers and continues well above that.
I'm no pro, but a decent intermediate and I'd be skeptical of numbers much lower than these. That said, it's always a tough call to get precise numbers, but you can always compare with other kites/riders in the same breeze and on that test the 2012 C4s go very well in the right hands - given that it is a performance Ckite optimised for turning and unhooked performance, and not a race/flat kite.
If I wanted pure low-end/m2 I'd ride Edges, but my priorities are turning and unhooked performance for all-round fun, so I ride C4s.
As ever, a demo long enough to dial the kite in will quickly sort the reality from the hype. See your nearest Ozone stockist ![]()
^^^ I think you just answered the myths about the C4 and bottom end, its really about using the right sized kite in a given amount of wind. The kite performs brilliantly like you say if you fly it in the winds each size is suited for.
