Rider: Weight: about 190 lbs (87 kg), Level: beginner
Style: Freeriding

My Comments:

Hi, I am beginner kiteboarder but want a board that I can keep for a while as I progress and don't want to get bored with it. I am interested in Freeride and would ride in the ocean (some surf and chop) and on lakes (mostly flat). I have been doing some research and have read very good reviews about the Crazyfly boards. I was told that for lighter kiteboarders (less than 75 kg) the 2012 Shox Custom is better but for riders over 75 kg the 2012 Raptor Pro is excellent because the weight of the rider flexes the board more and makes it more flexible (something like that, and it actually makes sense to me). Has any one ridden this board (2012 Raptor Pro)? Any comments or suggestions? Does is work well in both flat and choppy/surf conditions?

I appreciate your input. I have no ways of testing these boards. Any suggestions on kites? I have been told about the Crazyfly Sculp, North Rebel and Fuse. Quality is important for me becasue I want the equipment to last a bit.

Regards

Hi Miguel

Riders lighter than 75 kg can choose a smaller size in the Raptor pro, as they come in 1.27 x 38 and 40, the next size up is the same as the Shox.
The Shox has a a progressive flex from the centre to the tips and a double concave and will ride through chop better than the Raptor pro, but will not have the same "pop" as the Raptor Pro. You don't say how much you weigh?
The quality of Crazy Fly boards is extremely high, you can expect long trouble free life from a CF board or kite.

We are importing both kites and boards from CF this year and have been very happy with the product quality and the service extended to us by this amazing family run company.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I weigh about 87 kg. I had also looked into the Shoxs Custom but was told that with my weight, the Raptor Pro flex a little more so it would also do well in the chop. Will definitively keep the Shox in mind, also.

Regards,
